Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu
Ranked #20 of 75 Hotels / Ryokan in Chiyoda
Reviewed July 10, 2014

I stayed in a single occupancy room, so the size is small. Decent amenities. Service was good. Breakfast was average. Check-in and check-out time could be faster.
I used laundry service and for a same day return (normal) they expect to call the bell to inform for 10 am pick up from the room, which is not clearly mentioned. If you don't call, even if you state as same day service in the laundry bag, they treat it as 4 hours return with 30% surcharge. I did complain and one of the staff personally attended to call the laundry only to find that they won't waive.

In Tokyo, train station is very important. This hotel is 100 m from the Akasaka-mitsuke station which connects several connecting lines. 7-11 is located on the ground floor. Being one of the famous hotels in Tokyo, all guided tours, airport limousines has a pick up and drop off location from this hotel. There is BIC Camera store opposite and a large food court where you eat all types of cuisines.

I took a guided tour after check-out and have to leave the luggage for two days until I board the limousine bus to the airport the following day. The staff was kind enough to take care of it. For the convenience of the location, I would recommend this hotel and will come back.

Room Tip: In Tokyo, location and size of the room does matter. Choose wisely based on the number of occupants.

Great location with only 100 m to train station, shops and restaurants. located in central tokyo, good environment that can easily find anything you need nearby. I will recommend this hotel to families and friends.

Family stayed here 6 nights , nice hotel, rooms are big by Tokyo standard. Hotel is opposite of Akasaka metro station & is service by the A/P limousine bus. there is free wifi, a 7-11 on the ground floor ( grocery + an ATM that accepts bank & debit cards) . A Bic camera store is across the street (it has more stuff and a Pharmacy) the Excel hotel plaza on the 2nd level has a Hooters , Beer kitchen & other restaurants, the street Behind the bic store has a good range of small cafes, restaurants & bakery's . My main complaint is after flying 14 Hours and arriving at 7AM we were told NO Early check -ins( although we had paid for the day before), and were told to come back at 2PM. The staff was rude and unaccommodating. This hotel would get a better rating if they offered an early check in option (pain or unpaid) for passengers in situations such as us, (following our incident I noticed other guest who also arrived early and were forced to wait and sleep on the couches out in the lobby. This was a business-type hotel so this was not allowed and many were told by the hotel staff, including my wife, not to sit and sleep on the couches.) I give this hotel a standard + rating but cannot fully recommend it for those that fly in early morning

Room Tip: the higher the better for rooms

Stayed there two times: November 2012 and November 2013. Both are for one week periods each.

Pluses: tasty breakfast with lots of variety, good location: new Biccamera had been built just in front of it, good interior design, easy access to various locations even airport buses stop in front of it. Minuses: rather old, bad experience with a staff misunderstanding my country: indonesia with India. She insisted that my room had not been payed by my company due to it. After a couple of months there was a sorry letter from them anyway.

Room Tip: The hotel is located on a main road, therefore higher floor better. No scene to view from the window...

Location of this hotel is excellent, central and extremely well connected.
3 metro lines are a cross the street, and another 2 a little walk away.
Its relative proximity to the Imperial palace makes it a good option to
walk along its moat to the kokusai forum and Ginza area
My room was a moderate single. Upon check-in, I requested a good view room
and was told that my room was a high floor. I knew beforehand that rooms
either face the modern tokyo akasaka modern cityscape or a kind of garden
on the backside.
My room was a moderate single room, wide by Tokyo standards. It was facing this backside, with it's extremely high trees. I was
little disappointed in the beginning as the room looked dull, but this
proved to be a big asset, and it was kind of a nice retreat in the hustle
and bustle of Tokyo, with genuine bird singing every morning!
Looking into the rooms map, I also realized that all the moderate single
rooms seem to be on this garden side.
Fridge and expresso machine come very handy for any stay longer than a
couple of days. Seven-eleven in the ground floor has all what you might
need (now), grocery, stationary, umbrellas, cosmetics, lunch boxes the
genius of Japanese convenience store! And foremost: an ATM accepting
international bank cards, which is otherwise difficult to find in Japan,
even in many big name bank ATMs.

Staff was always courteous, willing, and able to speak good English
(although I wanted to try my Japanese). High sense of safety prevails.
Free wifi is included with daily cards which gives access for up to 3
devices. It is little inconvenient, However to have to input login data
everyday in 3 devices, as the duration of each login is only 24 hours.
Moderate single room seemed a bit tighter than it's advertised 19 sq
meters, but it is surely a wide room by Tokyo standards.

Airport shuttle bus from the door of the hotel is another big asset.
Despite the last bus would put me in Narita almost 5 hours ahead of my
flight, I opted for this option with my heavy suitcase.

Room Tip: a room to the backside will provide a tranquil retreat

We preferred to stay at this hotel because of its location and the hourly coach service facility to the narita airport. The hotel rooms are good, seems old but very well maintained. The staff is freindly and both check in and check out was very smooth and fast. It has good places to eat, supermarkets and the main subway station near by.
