I originally was booked into the Garden Tower (it was cheaper) and when I got to the room, it took me about 3 minutes to call the front desk to get me moved. The room is the equivalent of a Motel 6 in the US. Extremely disappointing! The room is tiny, the bed was awful, windows are small, furniture is old.

I agreed to pay more for the Main Tower and the room was better. Now better is relative - the room was about Courtyard level in the US and for the price I should have received more. There was a little more room, but to give you an idea of the age of this place, it had a make up bench.

The best part of the hotel is the Japanese Garden. Explore it even if you're not staying there.

Room Tip: Main Tower!

The New Otani gives you a palatial feelings upon entry, the service is fine, rooms spacious and well equipped with lot of traditional Japanese and western style options to choose from. Surroundings are resort like with beautiful gardens. Location is central with ample transport and dining facilities including both Tokyo airports. It is uniquely good for business as well as holidays. The breakfast is sumptuous with plenty of choices. The hotel has three segments, The Zen, Main and garden tower. Try staying at Main which is relatively new and at Zen if you want to enjoy Japanese style.Deluxe rooms are recommended for their quality but Standard & Quality rooms are equally good except the bathrooms in these rooms are bit crampy.

Great location, very pleasant staff, clean and comfortable rooms. A bit pricey though.

The Hotel New Otani is a refuge in the heart of Chiyoda Ku. One of the busiest commerce areas of Tokyo.
We've been back three times to this Hotel when in Tokyo and cannot speak highly enough of the establishment and it's staff.
The staff are attentive without being overbearing, (as is the Japaneese way), the rooms and suites, we have stayed in both are outstanding value.
All the accoutrements one might expect of a 5 star hotel are in abundance at the Hotel New Otani.
Ask for a high level floor the view over Tokyo at night is breath taking.
The subway is only 200m away and on the main line into Shinjuku, Ropongi, & Shibuya.
The garden is a standout.

Room Tip: Take a stroll through the Hotels garden ( you'll have to dodge the wedding parties, The well heeled of Japaneese society tend to use this garden and Hotel for society weddings ) one of the most beautiful Japaneese gardens, in Japan. Food in Tokyo is good everywhere no more so than in Asakasa (next tot he Hotel) try the small family run eateries, you won't be dissappointed.

This is one of the older and bigger hotels in Tokyo, with the service you would expect from established, well known hotels, different from the contemporary business styled hotels. The Otani has a established and respected reputation in Japan.
It is situated centrally with 5 min walk to a roofed subway connector that gets you to 3-4 different metro lines. It has a beautiful Japanese garden, which is one of it's charms. Stay here if you want old class charm and service in the heart of Tokyo, with character more than waht you find in big chain hotels. (hyatt, hilton, marriott etc) Don't stay here if you want in and out fast, efficient service and on a quick business trip. Rooms are good sized, even for a standard (remember this is Tokyo..) and the hotel has a "garden wing" and "main wing". we stayed at the 'garden wing" which is the newer additon.
