“Bonkers”

A total rip off but a must do if in Tokyo. Make sure you just buy a single drink rather than a 'dream package' and be prepared to join in with the Maids as they do some freaky stuff around you. Make sure you stay for one of the performances too. Like being stuck in someone else's bad trip for an hour!!! The food looked TERRIBLE!!! Just go for the experience

“Exorbitantly expensive for what it is”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

I live and work in Japan, and am no newbie to Japanese dining out, and I have to say Maidreamin' is probably the worst experience I have had of Japanese customer service.

We were hawked in the street by the cute maid, who like others have noted, held up two fingers and said "just buy 2 things!" - so we said we would give it a shot.

When we entered we were not greeted by the customary "Okaerinasaimase, goshujinsama" as Japanese customers are. We were seated at a tiny table and the maid did her best in English to explain that there is a cover charge of ¥1000 each. Okay.
So we ordered a cocktail each and and watched as the maids made conversation with just about every Japanese customer and ignored us, which I'm guessing is just a lack of confidence in their English ability (but we're still paying the same cover charge).
Our cocktails were watered down, and cost us ¥700 each.

I was also surprised to find that photography is strictly forbidden (although to be fair this is apparently a safety issue for the girls).

After 25 minutes we asked for the bill and were told we had to order something else, when we tried to argue the lady outside said we needed to order only two items, we were informed it was two items each. So we both bought the opportunity to have a picture with the girls, a tiny polaroid picture with hearts drawn on for ¥500 each.

Our total bill came to ¥4400, for watered down drinks, an uncomfortable half-hour of watching drunk salarymen leer at young girls and a tiny souvenir photograph.

“Almost like a scam”
Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

I heard about the maid cafe and I thought it would be a good experience for our family. I was such a big mistake. The price was exhorbitant even by Tokyo standards but worse still the food was absolutely below par. The food that one could get from the food stalls were much more superior to what they had. The"maid" experience was such a joke except of course you were paying for it. Don't even ask about taking pictures because that would be an extra charge.

“Hilarious - worth doing, once”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

After hearing about maid cafes and seeing advertising for them - we decided to give it a shot one afternoon after walking our feet off all over Akihabara.

While there is a cover charge, and dialog for us was a little challenging with the maids because of their limited ability to speak English (and our complete inability to speak Japanese), the whole experience was surreal, hilarious, and worth doing - but probably just once.

“This was just bizare but pretty fun”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

First there are about ten of these in Akihabara on various floors of tower blocks above other shops. You can't really miss them as there are always girls outside handing out flyers. The one we visited was on about the second floor of a block down an alleyway. I think it's safe to say though that as it's a chain you will have a pretty similar experience.

We were greeted and seated fine and shown the menu, we were also told about the cover charge and that was for an hour etc. This was all upfront, it isn't like Soho where a lot of these things are hidden in menu's that you can't find. I ordered something with Chicken in and my husband went for some egg thing with rice. To be honest the food is pretty basic slop, it's edible but not exactly gourmet, but you don't come here for the eating experience.

Jamie paid for the 'set' which included two photographs with the maid's. You aren't allowed to take photographs of the maids. Okay, so that's how they make their money. We were there pretty much for the full hour. There was a small 'show' as well, which was a maid miming to a song. There were two local 'groupie' boys there, who were really getting into it and throwing their light sticks around.

They signed Jamie's photo's and they also drew a 'Sonic' in tomato ketchup on his rice thing. It was all good fun and quite a bizarre experience. You only need to do it once, but it's well worth doing. Cost wise it's very reasonable and easily comparable to similar type café's.
