“Almost like a scam”
Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

I heard about the maid cafe and I thought it would be a good experience for our family. I was such a big mistake. The price was exhorbitant even by Tokyo standards but worse still the food was absolutely below par. The food that one could get from the food stalls were much more superior to what they had. The"maid" experience was such a joke except of course you were paying for it. Don't even ask about taking pictures because that would be an extra charge.

“Hilarious - worth doing, once”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

After hearing about maid cafes and seeing advertising for them - we decided to give it a shot one afternoon after walking our feet off all over Akihabara.

While there is a cover charge, and dialog for us was a little challenging with the maids because of their limited ability to speak English (and our complete inability to speak Japanese), the whole experience was surreal, hilarious, and worth doing - but probably just once.

“This was just bizare but pretty fun”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

First there are about ten of these in Akihabara on various floors of tower blocks above other shops. You can't really miss them as there are always girls outside handing out flyers. The one we visited was on about the second floor of a block down an alleyway. I think it's safe to say though that as it's a chain you will have a pretty similar experience.

We were greeted and seated fine and shown the menu, we were also told about the cover charge and that was for an hour etc. This was all upfront, it isn't like Soho where a lot of these things are hidden in menu's that you can't find. I ordered something with Chicken in and my husband went for some egg thing with rice. To be honest the food is pretty basic slop, it's edible but not exactly gourmet, but you don't come here for the eating experience.

Jamie paid for the 'set' which included two photographs with the maid's. You aren't allowed to take photographs of the maids. Okay, so that's how they make their money. We were there pretty much for the full hour. There was a small 'show' as well, which was a maid miming to a song. There were two local 'groupie' boys there, who were really getting into it and throwing their light sticks around.

They signed Jamie's photo's and they also drew a 'Sonic' in tomato ketchup on his rice thing. It was all good fun and quite a bizarre experience. You only need to do it once, but it's well worth doing. Cost wise it's very reasonable and easily comparable to similar type café's.

“This was a great cafe!”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

I had fun and the girls where really nice. The girl that served me was respectful and I miss this place a lot. Maybe some of you hatars that are offended by the girls dress should not bring your boyfriends and husbands to a place with girls that look better than you. Y go there and call them prostitutes when they barely make money doing what they are doing? Are you jealous that the girls look better than you.If so, maybe you should go to the gym instead of posting bigot remarks about people. Remember your in Japan and not at home.

“Worth experiencing once”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

Visited the in Akihabara. They maids were cute and did a lot of singing and dancing and polaroid photos. There was the slight problem of language barrier so they didn't really try to communicate with us, but I noticed lots of interaction with the local customers. Still, they tried.
