I was in Tokyo on business and a local colleague took me to lunch at Imoya for ten-don (tempura over a bowl of rice). He told me that this was known as the best tendon restaurant in Tokyo and perhaps all of Japan. There were 5 people in the queue so we waited 15 minutes to be seated. The menu was simple, basically only variations of ten-don. My colleague ordered shrimp ten-don for both of us. We were served miso soup and green tea, and within 5 minutes presented with a bowl of steaming rice topped with shrimp and vegetable tempura and a mildly sweet sauce. It was amazingly delicious, and the best part was the price, only 999 yen!
