A very clean and modern hotel, but with lovely traditional touches such as the shoji screens over the window and the wood finishes in the rooms. Modern conveniences such as a flat screen TV and one of those super Japanesey toilets made it comfortable. The room was small but adaquate and for the price, to say we were in Tokyo, was good value. Excellent rangeof toiletries and pajamas/ slippers provided. Room was cleaned every day, and any toiletries (hairbrush/ toothbrush) used were replaced. The slippers we used were also replaced with new ones, so we ended up with four pairs of slippers and about five hairbrushes by the end of our stay!!

Location not central, but extremely close to JR station, and close to subway (from which you could easily access the rest of Tokyo). Close to Tokyo dome (10 mins walk) and used book area. Lots of chain restaurants/ cheap food places on the main street near the hotel and, of course, lots of convenience stores (it IS Japan) including two right next door.

Lobby area of hotel was pleasant with a hina doll display when we were there. The outside is also very pleasant, with a small garden and water feature. There are two restaurants (one Western, one Japanese) although I can't comment on them as we didn't go.

The staff were very helpful. We arrived in Tokyo on the Saturday and were travelling to Kawaguchko for the first couple of days so they let usleave our suitcase at the hotel until we checked in a couple of days later, so we only had to take small bags to Kawaguchiko.

Internet was also available in our room (on our laptop, but also on the TV), but there were some PCs available to use on one of the floors.

Only problem was that you could hear the train a little from our room, but it stopped running around midnight so wasn't a problem for us.

All in all a pleasant stay.

My wife and I visited Tokyo in January 2011, we stayed at the Hotel Niwa 3 nights, went to Kyoto for 3 nights and came back to the Niwa for 2 more nights. We selected this hotel based on the Tripadvisor reviews we have read and our experience much exceeded all expectations. Being a hotel architect myself, I must say that the standard room we stayed in was just wonderful, perfectly designed for practicality, convenience and elegance. The room was not as big, but everything you need is just at your fingertips, and if you are an experience traveler and travels light you would have the time of your life. The bathrooms are greatly equipped including the amazing Toto toilet seat and fresh pajamas daily. To top all that, if you are lucky, you can see part of Mt. Fuji from your window!
The staff is the nicest, caring and the most accommodating I have ever met, they made us feel like family, especially Ms. Mie Ito, the Front Manager who personally made sure that we have the best time. The General Manager, Mr. Hitomi was also very kind and on our departure came to wish us a safe trip home. The hotel location is perfect, close to the JR station, Tokyo Dome and restaurants. If you buy the 7 or 14 day JR pass, and stay at the Niwa, you got the best of everything including round trip transportation from Narita airport, transportation in Tokyo and anywhere Japan Rail takes you. You almost can't get lost, signs, directions and instructions are in Japanese and English, and people are happy to help.
Hotel Niwa is definitely our home in Tokyo, and we are looking forward to our next trip and stay at the Niwa.

Great hotel for the price. Our room was small, and the bed was small, but we did get the cheapest room and large hotel rooms in Tokyo are hard to come by for a price.

I travelled with my 58 yr. old mother and this was our first trip to Tokyo. The hotel is very nice, intimate, chic and comfortable. I would describe it as the perfect balance of Asian/American fusion. The lobby personnel were extremely polite and friendly, as were almost all people in the city. Our room was small, as expected in Japan, however, it was impeccably clean and the comforter was super comfy. I did find the bed to be a bit on the hard side. There was a flat screen in the room, along with a mini refrigerator and an electric pot to heat water for hot tea. Our bathroom was spacious and all appliances and shower/tub looked brand new. The heated toilet seat was a welcoming feature in such cold weather, including the customary bidet as can be found in many public restrooms throughout Tokyo. The massage chairs on the third floor were quite the bonus after days of endless walking and sightseeing. The hotel is VERY quiet; we never heard any noise in the hallways nor from other rooms. Sleeping was a breeze.

We arrived at Narita and took the Airport Limo Bus to Tokyo Station, and then took a cab to Hotel Niwa. We had a bit of trouble explaining to the taxi driver where the hotel was, even though we had the address. In retrospect, perhaps we should have taken a map of the area in order to overcome language barriers. Ideally, we should have taken the limo bus to Tokyo City Dome hotel and walked to Hotel Niwa. (5-10 minutes away) However, that shuttle wasn't due for another hour after our arrival and rather than wait we took the Tokyo Station shuttle. The cab cost 2000 yen, plus the 6000 yen we paid for the limo bus from the airport. Expensive, like most all else in Tokyo.

Tokyo was enchanting. It's rich in culture and the people are incredibly respectful and polite. It was a great experience, fabulous trip, and we would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I have just had the most wonderful 9 nights’ stay at Niwa Hotel Tokyo. We booked this hotel based on TA reviews and we were more than happy with our Superior Room which was very comfortable and delightfully decorated in a Japanese/western style. It was the attention to details that we loved - from the Shoji sliding screens over the windows to the empty fridge in our room for storing our own goodies bought from a 7Eleven type store right next door to the hotel. Although not advertised, there was also an electric jug (shaped like a tall teapot with an elegant spout) for green tea and fruit Tea (supplied by hotel) and we simply brought our own small bottle of our favourite coffee with us from home. We also liked the pyjamas and the basket in the bathroom for used towels. These touches made it feel like a home away from home.
All the other great facilities have been mentioned by other TA reviewers so I won’t repeat them here, but my husband loved the message chair on the 3rd floor so much that he wished he was still at the Niwa when we returned home to Australia. Whilst we did not have breakfasts at the hotel, we did have dinner twice at the Hotel’s Restaurant Lieu. The food was delectable, the ambiance by the window with flowing water over the rocks was peaceful and serene and the best part of all - the service was impeccable. We would like to say a special “Thank You” to Joo who looked after our table on both nights. We are so impressed with this young lady who not only mastered Japanese as a second language but is also learning English. My husband and I couldn’t speak any Japanese (except for saying thank you) so we enjoyed our English conversations with Joo immensely. Since I was allergic to seafood, Joo made sure that there was “no fish” in my meals. The first time we had dinner at the Restaurant, we also met Mr Hitomi, the General Manager, who was pleased to know that we chose Niwa Hotel based on the excellent TA reviews we had read. The second time we were there was on our last evening in Tokyo and Mr Hitomi recognised us and came over to say hello. When we checked out the next day, Mr Hitomi had personally come out to the foyer to say goodbye and to wish us a safe trip home.
Whilst there are many name-brand hotels that offer more glitz and glamour, it’s really the people one meets on a trip that makes it special and memorable. Thank you to Joo and Mr Hitomi for being the special elements in your establishment that define a wonderful, warm and welcoming hotel. Our stay at the Niwa was simply beyond our expectations . We have told all our friends about this and we will definitely be back someday soon.
