This was the first hotel we stayed in on our visit to Japan in SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2011 (have only just set up Trip Advisor account).

Coming from Australia we were a bit shocked at the smallness of the rooms. However, this turned out to be a great little hotel. Very clean, modern and practical.

Only a short walk to Ochanomisu and Suidobashi train stations, we used Hotel Niwa as our base for looking around Tokyo and it was great.

This hotel caters to business travelers, thus the small yet practical size.

Staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful. Would stay here again.

Dear Kate D,

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments. Hotel Niwa Tokyo is conveniently located near the rail station, and centre of the city, which is ideal location for both business people and travelers. It takes only 12 minutes from the nearest station Suidobashi to Shinjyuku(where is the center of Tokyo) by Japan Rail.
Actually, we offer four categories of room types, and each of them has unique accent of Japanese design. Please check with our website homepage.
Anyway, Once again, thank you for choosing us while you were visiting Tokyo, and hope you will visit us again in near future.

Awesome, awesome, awesome is the only way to describe our stay at the Hotel Niwa.

Price: Great value for Tokyo, this hotel has figured out the hotel formula!

Rooms: The bathrooms are well designed with quality materials and boast a TOTO automated toilet. The room itself has a very minimalistic and comfortable Japanese influenced western layout. Simple touches including chilled water bottles in the refrigerator, delicious green tea with a Japanese tea set, and ambient lighting really enhanced the experience.

Services: There is an amenity suite that offers massage chairs, laundry machines, vending options and a secluded roof patio.

Concierge/Front Desk: Very helpful, especially if you need something translated from Japanese into English.

Inside Tip:
(1) Spend some time learning how the metro and JR system work for internal city transit. Turns out we used the JR system nearly the entire trip (Suidobashi is the closest JR station to the hotel) with the metro occasionally.

(2) The hyper-local neighborhood does not offer much in terms of late night dining/nightlife. If this is going to be a significant portion of your trip, consider the cost of cabs ($$$$) since the mass transit system does not run 24 hours/day.

Stayed two nights at this hotel. The hotel was two years old but looks brand new. Great location,
all the convenience stores closeby. A good restaurant downstairs and next door. The room is small but adequate. The water from sink was drinkable. Comfortable bed and all things works without any flaws. If you visit Tokyo, this hotel is the BEST choice.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights 11/1-11/6 (14th floor) and then 11/12 (10th floor) to bookend our Japan trip with flights in and out of NRT.

Location:
The hotel is located two blocks off a large street but is very quiet and lovely. It can be difficult to find the first time. We decided to catch a cab with our luggage from Tokyo Station after getting off the NEX. The cab driver had some difficulties in locating it but eventually we found it and once we knew where it was, it was actually quite convenient.

The hotel is about 3-5 mins walk from the JR Suidobashi Train station and the Tokyo Metro. The train line is 2 stops from Akihabara and on the line to Shinjuku. Tons of great eats as it is fairly close to Jimbocho (Book District) and Tokyo Dome. We enjoyed great Tonkatsu and Curry from nearby restaurants.

The hotel is also right next to a small konbini (convenience store) where we stocked up on drinks and snack in the morning. Great option for quick breakfast or early breakfast for jetlagged folks.

Room:
Rooms are smaller, which is to be expected in Tokyo and the size is equivalent to many boutique hotels we've stayed in in US. Just a bit small for multiple large suitcases.

The bed was comfortable but we booked a standard room which was essentially a full size bed for the two of us. It was comfortable but definitely not luxurious.

Lighting was good and very relaxing with sliding screen for light. PJs were included in the room. Bathroom was hightech with lots of gizmos including a seat warmer and deodorizer.

The tub was very nice and designed to soak and relax. They also had coin laundry in the third floor with massage chairs which was a nice touch.

Wireless worked very well the whole time and the mini fridge was stocked with water for us to drink. The only issue was that we had some trouble with the trash being removed. I guess we generated too much trash and there were a couple of times it didn't get removed.

Staff:
The hotel staff is wonderful as well. We had them book a couple of restaurants including a 3 Michelin star sushi restaurant in which they kindly obliged. They were also helpful pointing out the post office where we could withdraw money in Tokyo Dome.

They also held our large bags while we hopped around Japan and was able to receive our bags we shipped to the hotel.

We did not eat at the restaurant but it looked to be nice and breakfast seemed well frequented.

All in all, it was a great deal for Tokyo and while we weren't in the middle of the action it was very relaxing for our stay. We loved the area and would definitely stay again in Tokyo.

Room Tip: Higher rooms were nice. No three prong electric plugs (with ground) for those from the US. May be to...

This hotel located at a very quiet area yet it is near to Suidobashi station(Jr line, about 5mins walk). The hotel also not far from Tokyo station (about 10-15mins drive, cab fare about 1200 yen). There is a convenience store just next to the hotel and you will find many restaurants on the way walk to the train station.

The hotel room was very clean and quiet but small (as usual for hotel in Tokyo). They were very strict for the number of
occupant. However, staffs were very friendly and helpful. I reached the hotel before the official check-in time but they allowed me to check in earlier without any additional charge since the room were ready. I was also very satisfied with the cleanliness of the bathroom.

Although I felt the room rate was a little bit high but it was still worth to stay.

We stayed for 5 nights with a 4 yo son. Comfy & clean. 8 min walk to JR train station. Convenient. Friendly staff. Washer & dryer at 3 floor is convenient but may get busy. Massage chair helps to soothe the achy muscles. Definitely value for money! Would stay there again if we visit Tokyo again.
