Our family of 4 chose to go here for dinner during our trip to Tokyo in Jul 2013. We knew it wasn't going to be cheap, but the kids , aged 8 and 12, really wanted to go. Families with children can only go to the early sittings so we did wonder whether to go or not, but the kids persuaded us and I'm so glad they did! You are greeted by your very own ninja who escorts you to your booth/table (via a rickety drawbridge!). You can then choose from several set menus. The food really surprised us....presented in such a fun way (ninja star grissini, bonsai ice cream), and was really good quality. The kids had the children's set menu and really enjoyed that too. Plenty big enough for the 8 year old, perhaps a little small for the 12 year old, but only just! To top it all off we had our own ninja magic show performed at our table. A really fun evening, but do book in advance (we got our hotel to do this for us), it gets really busy.

Ninja Akasaka is something weirdly different for a dinner place in Tokyo. Some people do not associate Japanese cuisine as being "fun" but a meal at Ninja Akasaka will make you see it in a whole new light.

The experience of eating there is kind of hard to explain. First, you are taken through dark, winding passageways around and around in the restaurant, led by a lady ninja. There are low bulkheads and wooden floors to make the trip somewhat treacherous and very exciting. The mystery ends after about five minutes as you emerge into a dimly lit dining area that is separated from all other areas. Everything bordered on the mysterious and the unexpected.

Then came the delicious food in courses. I was surprised at the innovative cuisine being served, which I would describe as Japanese fusion with humor. One of our dishes was shaped like a cartoon frog, while others were beautifully decorated. Every dish was a nice photo opportunity. There was even sherbet between courses to adjust your taste buds. You keep guessing what would come next, and you would keep being wrong.

The service, I thought, was extraordinary. Our waiter had a very good sense of humor. He was funny and efficient at the same time. Obviously, this had been well rehearsed and repeated every night, but it made for a fascinating twist on having a Japanese meal we did not expect to find. There was even a lady who came doing awesome magic tricks at our table. I was most impressed with everyone's excellent spoken English which made the evening smoother than many traditional establishments. Even the staff at the entrance who took our group photo spoke good English.

Ninja Akasaka is something completely different in Tokyo, and totally refreshing. It is situated in a somewhat obscure building in the Akasaka commercial area. I think this added to the mystery of what really is behind its thick doors. Go there and be entertained yourself.

Totally unique experience! From the beginning up until you go home, you'll be escorted by a ninja. She/he (mostly she) will bring you to a tour in what they call Ninja Cave where you will pass through some tricky ways. The atmosphere also nice while you enjoy it together with the new fusion Japanese foods. At the end of your diner, the master ninja will show you some ninja tricks as the entertainment

Took the family there for lunch - oops not open for lunch. Came back later for dinner without a booking. We were able to get a table for 4. Great theme restaurant. Did not disappoint, from the welcome at the front door - through the Ninja warren to our table, deep in the Ninja's lair.

The food was great - much better than I expected. Some of us had the starter menu, some had a la carte. It was pretty good fun.

If you are looking for dinner with a difference, this is the place to go
