Mokushundo is a small restaurant in the large Japanese garden inside the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo property in Bunkyō, Tokyo. It can be easily accessed by walking 10 minutes from Edogawabashi Station. It has limited hours and is only open for lunch and dinner. This restaurant serves old-style dishes cooked at your table on hot lava rocks from Mount Fuji.
I went here for lunch on a Monday in November as part of an all day Hano sightseeing bus tour. The lunch was included in the price of the tour so I am not sure how much I paid for the meal. The barbeque consisted of three different types of meat, vegetables and white rice (you can ask for a second bowl of rice if you want). The meat was cooked and then dipped in barbeque sauce. I really enjoyed the meal and the entire experience (watching the servers cook your food and meeting the other diners at your table). The women servers wear traditional Japanese kimonos and cook and serve your food.
Overall I enjoyed my lunch at Mokushundo and recommend it if you are in this part of Tokyo or are staying at the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo. In addition, make sure you walk around the large immaculate and beautiful Japanese Garden afterwards.
