“Five star.. By local standards”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2011

By local standards, this is the next best thing to a 5 star hotel in Bohol. The function rooms are quite big. Food (Chinese) is tasteful and reasonably priced. Service is very good as long as the waiters and bellhops can understand you. Rooms are small but clean. Considering the price I paid around 35 USD a night, not a bad deal. The numerous channels on cable TV is an unexpected luxury...
But do ask for a room at the upper floor - not the third. I could hear the sounds of the band on the second floor. Good thing - they were quite good if you want to dance and not sleep...

I will firstly say the good bits about this hotel
+ Staff are very kind and friendly
+ The hotel is in a very very good location (Right in the middle of the city)
+ There is a nice shop next door selling food / drinks / souveneirs / clothing
+ Quite close to the airport (We got a free transfer if I remember correctly)
+ The floor we stayed on had free wifi which was quite fast compared to the other hotels I stayed in.

The bad things about this hotel are
- Carpet in our room was stained and smelt very damp
- On one occasion we got one rude staff member (The bread served with breakfast was stale, apparently thats what filipino bread is like ?)
- Make sure you ask for a window room because the rooms without windows are dark and have a wierd window looking into where all of the aircons are.

Overall an average hotel which was comfortable enough to stay in, the location and price are the hotels best features.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a window room, the higher floor the better.

Stayed just one night here and I have to congratulate the Metro Centre team for the warm smiles, constant greetings, and great hospitality I sampled.

My 6th floor deluxe room was on the small side, offering basic amenities --- think budget business, not resort luxe --- but quite adequate for a short stay while attending a meeting in Tagbilaran city. Kept spotlessly clean, save for a few ants on the countertop (nothing to worry about). I found the room too dark for my taste, with heavy elaborate maroon curtains, dark maroon carpeting (faded and worn), and dim lighting.

You can’t use the fancy chair and round table by the window for reading at nighttime, because there’s no lamp or overhead light in the area except a low-wattage wall-mounted bulb in the corner. However, you get ample work space on the long writing desk which is actually a simple white plywood counter fastened to the wall.

One plus: Extensive selection of cable TV channels, far better than the selection offered by some five-star hotels (the Shangri-la Putrajaya in Malaysia, for example!).

One minus: the airconditioner was a little bit noisy and couldn’t cool the room properly, even after I set it at 16 degrees C.

The bathroom was nicely lighted and looked fresh and well-maintained, not to mention well laid-out and comfortable despite its small size. Instead of an awkward bathtub, I got a large shower area, which was perfect.

The room feels and looks old, and I welcome the news that the hotel will soon embark on a major renovation project. I had a chance to enter the room (suite, actually) of a business colleague who stayed on the 8th floor, and it was bright, luxurious and elegant (5 star quality!). I don’t know if that will be new standard after renovation, but I sure hope so.

Ask for a room with a view (mine overlooked the main street and had floor-to-ceiling windows, though the view was slightly marred by the bubbles in the tint). Some rooms have no windows, and I imagine they must feel claustrophobic if they are dimly lighted too.

Food served at the function room was OK, but nothing to really rave about. The Asiatica restaurant on the second floor offers Thai, Japanese and Chinese food selections at reasonable prices --- I ordered the Thai bagoong fried rice dish for 85 pesos, expecting a light meal (being a lone diner), and was surprised to get a heaping tray-sized plate of rice good for up to 3 people.

Breakfast at the ground floor coffee shop was included in the price, but no buffet --- you get to choose one type of Filipino or American breakfast (I chose the local chorizo with garlic rice and egg, which was fine …. plus it came with free coffee refills).

Note: The hotel is just 5 minutes away from the airport by car (you can see the runway from the roofdeck). An all-night convenience store and souvenir shop is attached to the building, perfect for those last-minute purchases of Boholano sweets and stuff.

Room Tip: Ask for room with window --- better if higher floor.

Not a perfect hotel for long time stay. The standard rooms are very small and the door is being blocked by the bed and we found it difficult to open and close the door. What I like here are the staff that are kind and courteous and very accommodating to visitors on this City.

The hotel is right on main street. It's very noisy all night long. I didn't get a lot of sleep. But it's close to the airport and ATM's, and inexpensive restaurants are nearby. The meals at the hotel restaurant are delicious and they have a piano player performing every evening. The rooftop pool is small, but very nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's quite a drive to the beach - maybe 45 minutes by tricycle. The hotel staff does arrange tours of the islands, but if you want the beach, it may be better to stay on Panglao Island.
I'd recommend this hotel for one or two day stay, but not for a long term stay.

One is best advised to stay in a superior room (rather than the standard older rooms). The superior B room was clean and functional with a matrimonial-sized bed that was very comfortable. One of the great things about this hotel is its fantastic staff. They are so friendly and welcoming. Just a great bunch of people. The free breakfast should be supplemented with an additional breakfast order: this way one will have a good breakfast for a very reasonable price. The food is excellent at this hotel. The "fish in chips" is some of the best I have ever tasted (the pyre of fish was quite unique) and the marine fetuccini was excellent as well. Though the swimming pool is small, you will probably have it all to yourself in the morning. The hotel's adjacent store has all the food and souvenirs you will need, plus the hotel offers discount coupons. The business center is reasonably priced at fifty pesos per hour (time can be used in more than one session) and the Internet connection is very fast. This hotel, with its convenient location, is a great base from which to explore the many attractions of Bohol.
