We are in Puerto Rico for the first time and as usual we hoped to find a local restaurant with traditional food for the area. While on the beach outside our hotel our daughter befriended a girl about the same age so we met her parents and decided to have dinner together since the girls became inseparable. It turned out that her father, Marcelo, was the owner of Sal pa' Fuera and he and his wife Jessica asked us to join them at the restaurant. There was very good live music (mostly traditional Puerto Rican but he also knew "Dust In The Wind" which was awesome) and plenty of locals who were very friendly and the food was excellent. They have a bar with the typical beers/drinks along with a few Puerto Rican beers as well. The appetizers we ordered were good sized and very tasty. Just a heads up: the menu is entirely in Spanish but the wait staff was very patient and explained everything we didn't understand fully (I know Pollo is chicken but other details I wasn't sure). It's about a 20-30 minute drive from the San Juan airport area but well worth the trip. My wife and I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for something outside the typical tourist places that is family friendly (they have a jar full of Mr. Potato Head parts/pieces that my daughter stayed busy with).
