Killawasi is a very cute lodge with wonderful mountain views. We booked 1 night / 2 days package (Arequipa-Yankee-Puno) and really enjoyed the experience. Everything worked out very well and I totally loved the 2 hours hike, which was included in the room price. The only negative point was that we didn't have more time to enjoy the wonderful views from our balcony!

The rooms are quite spacious and the ones located on the second floor have a lovely balcony. There is no tv in the room, but in a place like this you really don't need it. During the winter the night temperature can be pretty low, but the heating was quite efficient (actually the best in-room heating we had during our 2 weeks trip in Peru) and at one moment we even felt hot during the night.

I was wanted to say special thanks to the lady (sorry, forgot the name) who was in charge while Guillermo was out of town. She was extremely friendly and took very good care of me when I started to suffer from altitude sickness (incl. called a doctor, who came from Chivay in about 20 min).

We stayed at Killawasi for two nights on our recent trip to Peru. From the first time I emailed Guillermo, until they dropped us off in Chivay at the end, everything went flawlessly. We chose Yanque because it is less commercial than Chivay and because it is closer to Cruz de Condor (which means longer to sleep in!). Killawasi Lodge is nestled in the valley, with mountain views all around and only donkeys and sheep for neighbors! Yanque's town square is just 3 blocks away, is very quaint (and has perfect wi-fi reception).

The food and service at Killawasi are top-notch. Rosemary, the on-site manager, simply could not do enough to make sure we had a wonderful time. The bedrooms are large and modern, with huge king-sized beds and clean, modern bathrooms. Each room has its own balcony. The dining room is open and inviting (with tea available 24/7), and there is a nice lawn with hammocks.

They can arrange horse-back or mountain-biking for you.

We did the three-day/two-night excursion, which I would recommend. I know many people do it in two days, but you spend most of your time in the bus this way. Having a full day in-between to enjoy the valley was wonderful. On day one, were picked up in Arquipa and taken on a bus-with-tour-guide the 4 hours to Chivay for lunch, and then on to Yanque. After settling into the lodge, we did a three-hour hike which was beautiful. On day two, we were taken to the Cruz de Condor and then went mountain biking. On day three, we had a nice sleep-in and then were taken to Chivay to catch the 1pm 3M bus for the 6-hour ride to Puno.

Not being a lover of long bus-rides, I actually found these rides to be incredibly enjoyable. The buses are super-comfy, and the tour-guides are interesting and knowledgable. The scenery is SPECTACULAR, with herds of llamas, alpacas, and vicunas; mountains and volcanoes. The bus stops a few times for you to take pictures/get snacks/go to the bathroom.

From start to finish, a fantastic experience with Killawasi!

We were the only guests staying after the Easter weekend. We booked a 2 day Colca Canyon tour through the lodge. The tour started in Arequipa and ended in Puno. Even though the owner Guillermo, was tired from a busy weekend, he still took us on a 3 hour hike around the scenic mountains. He kindly answered all our questions about the people and culture of the canyon. The Meals were delicious and so well priced. This is a wonderful retreat to relax and enjoy nature.

After going through three hotels/hostals, we didn't imagine finding a place as spectacular as this surrounded by beautiful mountains. The lush landscape impresses anyone. You can breath a pure air and feel the peace of this wonderful place. The breakfast was very rich and delicious. We tasted fresh and delicious lunch. It's necessary one hour for preparing a meal, because all the ingredients are fresh. The service were very excellent, they were to pick us and took us to the hotel on time. The room is big and very beautiful. It was the first and only hotel, at Peru, that I found a hairdryer, it was perfect because I could to wash my hair at night. Vanesa is an excellent guide and explained us everything about history of that place, we went to a trekking to visit the thermal waters. If you are looking for a hotel with excellent value, Killawasi Lodge is simply magnificent.

Room Tip: All rooms have the same quality.

Positives: Lovely location with a very rustic feel, great view from the hammocks in the garden, friendly staff, the complimentary day-trip to the nearby ruins is well worth it (but quite strenuous due to the altitude), dinner was prepared fresh and was very tasty
Negatives: no other restaurants in walking distance, hot water ran out during the night (cold shower in the morning!) - complaints were largely ignored (not understood?), the care-taker spoke only very limited English, dinner took a good 45 minutes to prepare (order early!), food ran out during breakfast, loud music from nearby village can go all night on weekends (earplugs essential), heating in the rooms is inadequate.
Like anywhere in Peru, be aware that room safes are not secure (hotel staff have master keys or codes). We have found that cash left in hotel safes sometimes mysteriously disappeared - thieves only take small amounts at a time so that it is often only noticed much later.
