Good place for Jotunheimen national park. Can just walk out of the front door for good hiking up to Fannaraken; or the beautiful drive over Sognefjellet.
Excellent food - and they adapted it well for my vegetarian wife. Comfortable and spacious room.

We stayed here after travelling down from the Geiranger fjord via the Sognefjellet road. It fits in so well with its surrounding - a breath of fresh air.

The room is basic in content but high in quality, comfy bed, nice bathroom with big bag, sliding door to the bathroom to give a bigger impression of space. Plenty of cupboard space, a big long desk in front of the window, charging points. No TV

The breakfast was fantastic, you can also pay to make a packed lunch (I think it was 11 Euro) they provide cling film etc in the breakfast room. There were fried eggs and bacon, pancakes, fruits, meats and cheeses, eggs - all of what you expect from a Scandinavian breakfast buffet but here the quality felt that little bit better.

The wifi didn't reach the room well but there is a nice area to sit down stairs and there is a library.

Plenty of free parking

We drove 1.5 hours the next day to the Jostedal glacier centre where we took a motor boat on the glacial lake followed by a glacier hike with IceTroll it was the highlight of the trip. We really felt we were in the wilderness, a group of only 5 plus the guide, the glacier and the mountains.

We just spent three weeks traveling through Norway by car and on foot, staying in various types of accommodation (including our tent), and absolutely loved the Turtagro on the Sognefjellet. The room wasn't huge but clean and tastefully decorated, and had glorious views of the Hurrangane and everything you would expect from a mountain hotel.

The lobby/fireplace room was very cozy and was filled with nostalgic photographs. There was also a library full of books on climbing and hiking in just about anywhere in the world in a variety of languages (not just Norwegen).

The rooms do not have television, which did not bother us at all. An annex to the lobby had internet and a widescreen television for those suffering withdrawal.

The food was excellent, we opted for full board, which allowed us to pack our own lunch from the delicious breakfast buffet. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and we felt welcome and could relax.

The only downside to this hotel, as with most of the best places to stay in Norway, was the price, and it is the only reason I did not give this hotel full marks.

I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling the Sognefjellet in Norway.

Do you love nature? Do you like grand views? Good food? Interested in history? Are you into climbing?
You get it all here - Turtago is unique. Close to one of the most stunning places on earth (according to National Geograpic), you can sleep in good beds, eat wonderful food, go hiking, climbing, skiing, relax in the library, sit in front of the fireplace. Pure bliss. Go!

The Turtagrø Hotel is located at the Sognefjellet road northwest of the scenic Jotunheimen national park. Don't be fooled by the address, the hotel is not directly located in Fortun but quite some distance away from it in an area that offers stunning views of Jotunheimen. It is the ideal place to stay when you took the Sognefjellet road down from Lom to the Lustrafjorden or when you want to stay longer in the Jotunheimen area for outdoor activities.

The hotel offers normal rooms which are very pricey (about double of what you would pay for a comparable room elsewhere in Norway) but also more inexpensive lodging for outdoor enthusiasts that just need a place to roll out their sleeping bag.

The hotel rooms are spacious and very clean. The normal package includes a very good breakfast. You can also opt for an included (and delicious) three course dinner menu which is advisable because of the location of the hotel going to the nearest restaurant might take quite some time.

There is a common room for hanging out and relaxing, having a drink or planning your next trip. A room with PC with internet access and a TV is also available. Note that the rooms do not have TV.

Plenty of parking space is available.
