“this could have been a really good evening...”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

We (3) went on a recommendation to this restaurant. We arrived at about 7:30 the restaurant/pub, first impressions clean and bright, alas you are met with a notice stating everything on the blackboard is off. Which I guess is okay for this time of year (why not just wipe the board maybe?). Then to our surprise we told (by the owner) we could only eat if we sat in the bar and had to order from the bar. As we had travelled all the way from Hastings we said we would. We sat at a clean round table, with comfortable chairs, but was somewhat cold as it’s that time of year between fire on and fire off… we ordered our food and bottle of wine from the bar, we all went for their special “Wednesday Spit Roast” and were told to be seated and someone would fetch us when they were ready. Which a young man dully arrived and we got up, walked through the bar into the half full restaurant with 4 none laid up empty tables, so I assume not booked, to a buffet table where he caved our meat and issued the roast potatoes and we helped ourselves to other vegetable and gravy and sauces . When we got back to our cool bar table walking past the spit roast still on and pouring out heat into the restaurant. We found a bowl of delicious spinach on the table. The food was tasty and well cooked, we finished off with some excellent homemade desserts, order taken by a very pleasant waitress. I suppose my issue is that for about £25 per head to eat in a near empty cold bar and serve ourselves is not really good value for money. I am sure those in the warm restaurant had a much better deal and a much better dining atmosphere. When we left the same tables in the restuarnt where still empty. It is a real shame as this could have been a really good evening , but I left feeling slightly cheated and somewhat second class. They are clearly proud of their awards, which I am sure they have correctly been awarded, they should also get the best toilets in Kent award – have to be the cleanest pleasant smelling interesting toilet in the county!

“Never again”
Reviewed October 4, 2012 via mobile

Poor service. Poor food. Made to feel unwelcome and that it was a chore to be spoken to. Heard it was NOT the place to go but thought we'd try it. Would have taken the advice especially as it came from a few local people!,

“Splendid Sunday”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

If only all pubs were run this way!
We recently moved to the area and were recommended to visit The Royal Oak for a good Sunday Roast, and we were not disapointed
The meat, we both had beef on this occasion, was cooked to perfection, still healthily pink and moist with fantastic flavour. If only all sunday roasting pubs would use Sirloin - it really is worth paying that little extra for such quality.
Many thanks to our waitress, unforgivably I forgot your name, but we will definitely be back to find out!! Perhaps on a wednesday to try your spit roast roasted in the inglenook fireplace - sounds delicious!

“The local pub.”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We enjoyed an excellent meal. The menu offered a good choice and the food was well cooked and tasty. There were a lot of customers, mostly local, who obviously use this as their local. Service was good and staff very friendly and eager to please.

“The best restaurant we found in the area”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

We have now eaten at Brooklands 4 or 5 times, in the evening and at lunchtime. We have found it to be very consistent. The staff are always pleasant and helpful and service is good. The menu is a good mix of old favourites and something a bit different. Food quality has always been good. Brooklands is one we go back to.
