You have to reserve well in advance during peak season in august. We have been here last year too . You cannot say it' bad because the quality of food is good ( excellent oysters, excellent tartare of some kind of fish, excellent thuna carpaccio) but when it comes to elaborating and cooking the dishes, well they are not so exciting. Good but not something you will remember for a long time, I mean. My agneu (lamb) was only just good enough and my husband's fish as well. The bread was icy cold and gummy (in France!). The atmosphere is nice and the lady very kind but as a whole I don't know if I would recommend it. Euro 103 for 2 for the suggested menu including the wine, not so inexpensive.

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by our dinner.
The flavours just didn't work, lobster with raspberry mousse and chocolate, very sickly and didn't do justice to the lobster. Also it came straight out of the fridge, so was way too cold. This was followed by turbot (well cooked) but accompanied by pretty tasteless vegetables and bits of truffle. Dessert was very elegant, but again it didn't work. The apple mousse was tasteless and we didn't quite understand the apple - raspberry combination. The best part was the 'verrine' of vanilla panacotta and strawberry coulis. The coulis was amazing. Service was attentive but unfortunately it didn't make up for the disappointing food

Don't be put off by the table cloths and the appearance of "fine dining". It is is fine dining, the food is completely delicious, the manager one of the most charming people you will ever meet, she could not have made us more welcome.

My wife and I both agree that the experience we enjoyed at Roz Avel is by far the best at any restaurant in France. The food is sourced with ingredients so fresh, they seem to have been harvested after your order was put in. The dishes walk a very thin line between classic cuisine and inventiveness, and they all incorporate one element of surprise. The portions are substantial and are intended to satisfy. Finally the service is outstanding. The respectful wait staff welcomed us with a warmth that we found to be uncommon in France.

The meal started with an amuse-bouche: tartare de poisson and filet de sardine. Delicious and elegant, this announced the care being put into the meal that was to follow. The carpaccio de bar a l'huile d'olive was very carefully presented with a lemon mousse. The lobster medallions were served with roasted potatoes on a bed of shallots and a balsamic reduction.

If you are staying in Belle-Ile, I recommend you try as many restaurants as possible to get an idea of the wide range of delicious foods that make up the local gastronomy here. And then reserve a table at Roz Avel. The experience might just be the icing on the cake your trip needs.

This was our romatic night out for dinner when we were staying with family(locals) on the island. They said this was the top place to eat. We had a four course meal that was the best in France and nice service! They even gave us nice blankets since we wanted to sit outside with a view of the old church and the weather was cold! Save your money, but this place is worth every euro!
