“Isla Jardin del Mar in Glan, Sarangani”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

This was my first time to visit the fabled "Sarbay" or Sarangani Bay and for somebody living in Mindanao for more than 15 years, I'd say it was about time to visit this place.

Going there was not difficult at all, we traveled in a private car, from General Santos City it took 2 hours to arrive to Isla Jardin del Mar. It's the newest resort along the famous 'Gumasa beaches'. We originally planned to stay at White Haven (it's one of the more famous resorts) but my father preferred the ambiance and over-all look of Isla Jardin del Mar to the other beach resorts since the others (as my father would say) were quite crowded and cramped.

Pros and Cons of Isla Jardin:

- it's a bit further down the highway from the beach resorts and you really have to ride from the highway into the resort, it's a bit isolated from the other beaches (the road is a rollercoaster treat, not that it's not paved and cemented, road construction is currently ongoing but nothing a vehicle can't handle. sedans can pass also, no biggie).

-if you prefer the isolation from busy beaches and beachgoers then this is the resort for you!

-they have a restaurant which serves decently priced food (swear, they are not overpricing) but they don't have room service (why? they want their guests to "exercise and explore the beach" while they go to the restaurant to eat.

-they have a wonderful "Sunset Boulevard", it's a nice long walk from the shore to the side of a huge cliff where you can watch the sun set.

-the beach. oh gosh. no comment. the sand is not white, more of yellow, it's not as fine as the sands of Samal and Talicud Island but the beauty of the place makes up for it.

COST: this place is a real deal. Non-air cottages cost Php 1,400 (4-6 people (depending if you want to squeeze in), 2 bedroom (big beds) and a private comfort room. No tent fees. Plus, if you are more than 6 persons, your entrance fee is free.

Overall, I'd say this place is really awesome for a get-away. An overnight stay (or two-night stay) will satisfy your saltwater and sunburn craving. :)

Me and my husband, together with our one & only daughter had our family escapade in Gensan City. We stayed at Sydney Hotel during the first night, and then the next morning, we proceed to Gumasa to see the beautiful beach at Isla Jardin del Mar Resort. We really enjoyed our stay there and we had so much fun as well. We put up a tent where we can play cards and do some funny things there. We really had a memorable experience and family bonding. The resort is such a wonderful place to stay especially for families. The foods are great especially the fish kinilaw that we have ordered. We didn't stay for a night because we need to go back to Gensan to meet my niece. We left the place at around 6pm happy and worry-free because the place is safe for the travelers.

After I got into Gen San and rested overnight at a local Inn. 24hrs is enough to see gen san, nothing special. its unusual even that most of the grill place dont have fresh Tuna Belly instead they have Lechon Kawali and its very nice. One of the Old house even offer Rice and Lechon kawali for 100 pesos and its like Heavenly. so now going back to the Tuna. i did not see any fresh grilled tuna. so better not. a tuna is only good if its fresh. That same night i search for a local with a motorcycle to bring me to Glan its a Place further than Saranggani.

So now lets enter Isla Jardin. The entrance is nothing Great. there is even a swampy area that gives you this disgusting drainage smell. BUT when i entered the beach area all is paid Off. the Long drive is worth it. If i can just shout for Joy I will just to show how i enjoyed this Place. I got this single Room at the Far end. facing the sea to your left. its fully AC with nice clean toilet in a Nipa Hut. Fronting you is the beach which is a FISH Sanctuary so make sure to bring your Flippers and Goggles. The current is strong though but its OK, the corals and fish is a must to see and also if you have fish food or dried shrimp. bring it, it will add some entertainment as you swim like a mermaid underneath. The floating gazebo is also a must try, Jump like a diver to the outside perimeter of the sea which is like 20 feet but still white sand.

Going back to my Room. I have my own Sun Bed infront and its not crowded as they have Plenty of Rooms so make sure chooses a room far from noise. i felt like its my own Beach. During meal time they can deliver food but i chose to go to their restaurant that serves nicely cook pinoy home ulam. sinigang, inihaw. nothing fancy but good. The attendants also make sure you are taken cared of. they will visit you for new towels, some ice cubes, they will even ask you if you want to play volleyball. Yeah the employees here are Good Volleyball Players.

In the evening try not to sleep deeply. around 2 am wake up and watch the sea. You will see rain and storm forming from afar. i dont know it happens, but during my stay that is my spectacle every early morning.

Room Tip: Choose MY Room. hahaha.. facing beach to the left the Farthest Room.

This resort is about 55 kilometres from General Santos City.

WhileI hired a taxi for the day at P3000 and also visited other establishments in the other direction from the city, I gather that a one way taxi fare might be about P1500. There would be multicabs (V Hires) available for far less to Glan although if using these vans, only the front seats offer reasonable legroom.

The resort is approximately two to three kilometres off the main coastal road on a partly concreted, partly gravel and at times steep road that might be difficult to negotiate after heavy rain.

The resort offers 27 fan cooled basic Nipa huts with an included basic bathroom including what I assume is a cold water shower(P1300 a night) and 10 airconditioned Nipa huts at P2000 a night.

All have excellent views of the stunning sea with the beautiful white to slightly yellow sands (not corally, but quite fine). At low tide at 1400 hours I observed some tropical fish among many corals although far more coral is apparently offshore, further than I ventured as I had forgotten my snorkel.

I did not stay but instead enjoyed a delicious Lapu Lapu (grouper) fish lunch cooked in sweet and sour with accompanying fried rice, including vegetables.

The resort is two years old and has a convention hall.

A banana boat operates at a cost of P500 for 15 minutes.

The resort has its own modern full sized bus to take guests to and from General Santos.

Manager Sydney has excellent English: his parents lived in Sydney, Australia at one stage.

As the previous poster commented, this resort may be basic but it is arguably located on one of the top 20 - perhaps top 10 - strips of sand that I have seen in Philippines and so deserves to be better known. Don't stay if you want Boracay, Phuket or Bali style nighlife and frenzied activity. Do come if you enjoy snorkelling in pristine waters and kicking back with a flavorsome San Migue beer or fruit juice.

This is the 2nd time I stayed here. Takes about 90 minutes to drive from GenSan and well worth the trip.

The resort is fairly basic with few facilities - which is part of the attraction. It's ideal for either a romantic getaway or a family outing. Rooms are high-end Nipa huts, some with aircon. The rooms have basic facilities, i.e. a bed and a bathroom (shower only). There are no TV's and no phones. Mobile phone reception is poor (for Smart) and ok for Globe.

Room are literally on the beach and a couple of meters from the water. The sea is clean and warm.

Deluxe room costs around P2000 per night (for aircon) and includes breakfast. There are also outside huts that are a lot cheaper.

Food at the resort is very good.

Weekends can get a little noisy there because of families having a day out and staying overnight.
