“How bad can a place be!”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

We called into the restaurant after booking into the Spa hotel.....out of 7 treatments only 2 were available????? We went to have our meal...suprised by the fact that the receptionist tried hard to tell us to go to the local pub or two places in frinton ( both we knew)....she was so correct.....rude staff, food so dismal i cannot remember ever having such lack luster food......the head waiter ( not sure if that correct) said the Venue was for the famous not for the locals or for "normal" people,,,,,mmmmm! we left by taxi into thorpe and had a very good meal at the local pub " the bell", Lifehouse is a super venue but more than apalling service, food and attitude. The new owners certainly have not got it right yet.....a briefing to staff about rudeness and attitude would help . An Easter break ruined at a quite expensive rate.......

We've just returned from a two night stay at the the Lifehouse and everything was brilliant. The staff were friendly and couldn't have been more helpful, the room was clean and very comfortable and the food great. Our only advice would be to ensure you book your treatments early to avoid disappointment.

The Spa area is amazing especially in the evening as the lightling is low and so relaxing. The Salt Inhalation Room is a must along with the Hydro Pool. The Chill Out area is just that, it has lovely sofas and loungers along with 3 very popular massage chairs.

If you enjoy a Smoothie or two, then you must visit the Strawberry Tree.

We loved the word Sshhh on the walls, and the fact its a mobile phone free zone, a real escape!

Whilst you have check out of your room by 11am, it's great being able to stay and use the facilities untl 3pm, we certainly made the most of it.... WE WILL CERTAINLY BE BACK.

My husband booked us a night at the lifehouse spa on the 27th Dec for an Xmas present. He got a really good deal & I can honestly say we had a fantastic time. The spa is really AMAZING & the staff go out of there way to help you. The food was fantastic & could not fault it & my treatments were just what the doctor ordered! Go for the lifehouse facial by Liza. It was the best facial i have ever had!!!!! I could go to this spa every weekend. Ha ha if only.. It takes away all your worrys & stress from every day life. I loved the fact you can walk around in your dressing gown that they provide. What I really loved was that even though check out was 11am you can still use the spa fasilities all day as the locker & shower rooms are great. Will defo go back!

“peaceful & pleasant but in need of a few changes”
Reviewed October 26, 2011

i stayed at this spa in May 2011, not long after it opened.
When booking, the manager was very accomodating in offering my sister and i seperate rooms, since i use a wheelchair and none of the single rooms were suitable.
we arrived to have our baggage portered directly from the car and found our cases in our rooms after check-in.
The grounds are lovely - the mix of modern build in older grounds has been done to a very high specification and the over-all feel is contemporary yet in-keeping.
the bedrooms were lovely with plenty of space and storage and the bed itself was one of the most comfortable i have slept on.
the facilites in general are ok. the spa and pool section is quite good - we were not fortunate enough to see the foot baths in use but the sauna's and spa's were never overcrowded. the only downside was that there is only 1 pool so when the aqua classes are being held, you do not have the opportunity to swim.
outside of the pool, the grounds are truly lovely - with the large lake and stone walls, the gardens have been personally tended to over the years and it is pleasantly difficult to overlook the family connection and history of the property. both by sister and myself felt that it would make a beautiful and unique wedding venue for a summer wedding.
other than the gym, which was very small and lacking equipment, i was very happy with the facilites in general: there is plenty of indoor and outdoor space to relax, including a 'library' which was rarely frequented despite the arrary of books and computers / free internet.
when attending upstairs for treatments you are greeted with a lovely lounge to wait in and the best massage chairs i have tried to date. the staff are pleasant and put you at ease.
unfortunately the massage experience itself was not without fault. the rooms for treatments have been allocated above drying rooms and it is impossible to ignore the sounds of washing / drying machines. this would be my greatest criticism of the spa and could easlily be improved.
the food was as expected - the breakfast and lunch offered a familiar and high-class standard with options to suit all. the evening meal was much more elaborate, and although i was able to select an option for each course, i did feel that the food was a little too much over-complicated and the non-incusive drinks were very expensive even at just-outside-london rates (£8 for a cosmo)!
over all, i would rate this spa as an 8 out of 10, i am definately planning to return, but in the hope of a few minor, but necessary changes.
