“Authentic Italian”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

As the first foreign reviewer of this restaurant, this is what I imagine to be a true italian restaurant to be. I would have given five stars but for the house red.

“Home is the Hunter”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

About 7 km from Camerino, Muccia is a small, sleepy town with an ancient history and notable buildings including the 16th-century, octagonal church of Santa Maria di Varano. It is, therefore, a welcome surprise to find, in the small central square, this excellent albeit unpretentious restaurant. As one would expect with the name 'Del Cacciatore' ('The Hunter'), many of the specialities include local treasures such as porcini mushrooms, truffles and game, including wild boar, venison, partridge, pheasant and woodcock. Cooked, using recipes from the locality, the food is simple and authentic. We started with plates of mixed openers - delicious! To follow, the wild boar, long marinated and casseroled was delicious. Finally, the excellent coffee was corrected with mistra - the locally produced aniseed liquor. A perfect finale for a delightful. meal
There are three dining areas in the restaurant - all simple but charming. The staff were very helpful, efficient and in no way pushy.

“Hurrah! - no television”
Reviewed June 27, 2011

Marche has, by and large, wonderful ingredients, some excellent chefs but a dearth of restaurateurs. Even some of the finest kitchens serve in dining rooms that have décor that could have come from the 1950's - a mish-mash of colours, patterns and textures. So when you eat out in the Marche it's all about what's on the plate, not the ambiance. The majority of dining rooms have at least two televisions and sometimes these are not even tuned to the same station.
Del Cacciatore, however, has no TV and has dining rooms with charm and individuality, from the hunting lodge of the central area to the glass-walled garden annex. The service is smooth and unobtrusive, the menu is expansive and not expensive.
My casserole of wild boar was well seasoned and tender without falling apart; my partner raved about the tenderness and delicate sauce on her roast veal. We were sorry that there was not more of a selection of side-dishes, and regretted that the desserts were the usual lack-lustre selection from the freezer, but despite this it was a lovely lunch in a fine environment. I am looking for an excuse to make the detour that way again, soon.
