I have stayed at the Taselotzin 20+ times over the past 8 years or so. The rooms in the main part of the hotel are basic and comfy. My family and I stayed in a somewhat newer cabina with a fireplace and jet-tub last time we visited; it was great. The staff keeps the grounds beautiful, and one gets a breath-taking view of Cuetzalan from the veranda, where meals and drinks are served. The food is regional and delicious. The avocado salad is heavenly, and their salsa makes everything taste extra-special.
The best treat of staying here, though, is the wonderful staff. The hotel is run by part of an indigenous women's cooperative. You feel like members of the women's families. Juanita who works at the front desk is always gracious and welcoming. Antonio, the night watchman is fun to chat with and he will do all that he can to make sure your stay is just as you want it. Vicki heads up the kitchen, and magic ends up on her plates.
This is not a traditional luxury hotel; again, accommodations are pretty basic. The views, the atmosphere, and the people make the Taselotzin unforgettable.
Be sure to plan for a visit to the temescal while you are here. it is a wonderful, relaxing, spiritual experience.
