“Great hacienda, but significant drawbacks”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Gorgeous, tastefully furnished old hacienda. Very tranquil; surrounded by a banana plantation with distant views to the sea; good sized rooms. But, dinner was appalling, on a par with a 3rd rate motorway cafe. Breakfasts poor. Awful coffee - so awful that they charge you for different, proper coffee. Juice was squash. Fruit several days over ripe. Neither bed linen nor towels were changed once in a week. If you are travelling out of season (eg April), note that there are no decent restaurants open unless you drive 25 mins west to Agaete or the capital. So dining out is a challenge. Hopefully lots of people will fill out the hotel questionnaire and they can do something about the food soon!

Room Tip: The rooms on the 1st floor have views to the sea.

The Hacienda is an attractive hotel in pleasant surroundings. The room we had was spacious and airy.
The reception we received, hot from the airport in the evening, was not pleasant, however. We had to fill in a full details form as well as a credit card proforma(our visit was fully prepaid by a tour operator) in a dingy little office. We were not told about fresh water available near the room, nor the facility for tea and coffee(unusual in Gran Canaria, again nearby).
On our departure we had a taxi prearranged for 9 a.m. and explained to the receptionist who had arrived before this time but refused to let us pay for incidental until the appointed time. She also seemed miffed when we told her that picnics that we had obtained had not been billed!
The food at dinner was just acceptable, by no means good, but the breakfast buffet was fine.
Overall this hotel was not a patch on the Cabanas Villas Verde at Fontanales, a real Canarian find hidden under the mountains.

I stayed for 7 nights at this hotel and it was excellent - very relaxing and peaceful. It's a 10 min walk to Arucas, which is small, but pretty, and a 15 min drive to Las Palmas. There are plenty of areas to find a quiet spot - and most mornings I'd have the pool to myself. As well as the pool, there's an indoor jacuzzi, an out door jacuzzi and a small but great little gym, as well as a lovely lounge, and a bar and restaurant.
Breakfast is good, and varied, if not massively exciting - the same is true of the food. Service was good and friendly but there was no menu variation.
Having said that, it was good simple food, and they were flexible on the menu as I'm a vegetarian.
If you want a relaxing, chilled out holiday, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Go for a junior suite opposite the pool - spacious and peaceful.

It's a wonderful place, in a banana plantation, next to Arucas, far from the tourists crowd.
The rooms are really beautiful , but try to reserve one of the rooms upstairs.
Wonderful atmosphere, great facilities, with warm jacuzzi, swimming pool, sauna.
The breakfast is excellent.
The dinner is not at the same level, but for that you can always go to Arucas.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms upstairs.

A one week holiday in January. La hacienda is a great place to stay. The building is fabulous- a few hundred years old - all stone and polished wood. The setting is lovely, with great hillside and sea views.

The menu at the restaurant was fairly basic, but reliable - both breakfast and evening meals. The staff were without exception friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble.

The only downside? The north end of the island was typically 3-5 degrees Celsius lower than the southern end whilst we we there. Would we return though? Certainly.

The Hacienda is a great place to stay for a short weekend trip or as base to discover the rest of the island. Lovely gardens, surrounded by banana plantations and a great pool with jacuzzi. Breakfast was OK and the rooms even though they have a lot of character, they could do with more care and attention.

I stayed in the hotel for three days to recover from a week of surfing. The hotel is as pretty as the surroundings. Our room was nice and clean, with a impeccable room service.

But I have to agree with the other reviews here that the quality of the food does not match the rest of the hotel. This goes for the lunch, which you can avoid by eating out, but also for the breakfast. Especially the instant coffee and bread and spread choices were depressing.
