Camilsons has been a treasure find: brilliant spot at the beach front, very friendly and professional service! The accommodation is basic but in case you are unhappy with something in the room/bathroom they are ready to fix it, you just have to ask. We have had a fantastic time with friends here, sipping fresh pineapple juice, fresh lime soda or kingfisher at the beach all day. The crew, manager Raymond and the waiters Arun and Joseph we will always remember for their helpfulness and kindness - as well as some excellent dishes!

Room Tip: Ask for the renovated apartments.

Camilsons is a basic beach resort at one of the most amazing beaches in south goa. prime beachfront resort, with ample space, basic rooms with beds and attached baths ( we chose non AC, so not sure about the AC rooms) a beach facing restaurant ( food was average for a beach front shack), and the best part of the resort was the beach in front- un crowded, clean and all inviting.
The staff was courteous and attentive, though a little slow at times

Would surely recommend for a stay if ever in South goa

Room Tip: try for a beach facing room, only a few of them

We are two mature well-travelled Australian women friends who have both been to India many times and were looking for a bit of peace and quiet in a scenic setting. We found it here at Camilson's with its friendly ambience, helpful obliging staff, good quality restaurant (although a bit pricy) and cool attractive accommodation in an attractive garden setting.

Low points for us were:

1. There is no convenient access to public transport. Getting out to other places of interest required either a long walk to the nearest bus-stop or the expense of a taxi.

2. The unit was very clean on arrival but thereafter, cleaning had to be requested.

A high point for us was to find that we had a room each for the price of a single reservation.

Room Tip: All looked good to us.

Would absolutely go back again - if a quiet, middle-range holiday is what I have in mind.

Aside from the manager (who could smile a bit more, though we managed to get a smile out of him towards the end), the staff were fantastic. They were attentive, polite and completely deserving of a generous tip at the end of our 8 day stay there.

The room is pretty basic but clean; they clean and change lines once every two days. There is a little verandah leading to well-maintained hotel grounds replete with greenery; there was even a papaya on the papaya tree outside:-) When we complained that the lights were not good enough to read by at night, we were immediately provided with two rusty if completely functional reading lamps :-) However, one of the plug points was dysfunctional.

The other big plus about the place(apart from the staff) is the location - right next to the beach on Sernabatim- a stretch that lies between Colva to the north and Benaulim to the south. So could hear the sea in our rooms at night. The restaurant that looks out to the sea was also very cosy -with cane chairs and cushions. We spend a lot of time in the restaurant reading and people watching; loved it that it was quiet in the evenings.

When we wanted a livelier place, we headed out to Andy's - a nice, cheerful place further south on the beach (we preferred Andy's to Xaviers). The food was excellent and comparable at all these restaurants.

We turned up at this resort without a reservation which, ironically, seemed to be the best way to get a reasonable deal. You should not be paying more than about Rs 700 per night (we paid Rs 500 at the end of November) unless you're in absolute peak season (December/January). The room was clean and had recently been decorated. Also, unlike many other similar places dotted on Benaulim beach, this one was quiet at night (others suffer from overtones of diabolical 90's eurochav baselines till dawn).

On the downside, the manager (a sort of Indian Basil Faulty) is quite fantastically rude ("you give me money now") whilst managing never to miss an opportunity for strategic sycophancy (some berk turned up claiming to be a writer for the Rough Guide (no I.D.) and was treated like royalty). Also, if you're bothered by mosquitoes, make sure you bring your own net as the facilities provided aren't great.

On the whole though this was a pleasant, calm, quiet and friendly place which I would recommend to others.

Nothing exceptional about the room which was adequate but with the benefit of a verandah. What this place scores on is its friendliness and location, right on the beach at Benaulim just south of Colva. After the recent bad publicity about Goa, it's good to report a civilised place popular with middle-range, middle-aged, middle-class people with whom you can fraternise in the restaurant or garden. The beach is unpretentious and great for people watching (cricketers, ice cream men, saleswomen etc.) Oh, and not many mosquitoes either! Generally a great place to relax.

I booked 9 nights (2-11/01/2008) in the cheapest block (B8) and paid Rs 900 / night for a very basic room that needed to be repainted, which is - in Indian and even Goan terms - certainly overpriced. There was hot water 24 hrs a day, but on my arrival I found the room dirty (they only clean the floor and you have to ask for it, as well as for towels and toilet paper), full of mosquitoes and with the door lock broken. The electrical switchboard with all the switches and plugs dates back to the early colonial period. There was a fan, but the room tended to get very hot in the late afternoon because there was no shade on the balcony. In fact, I was lucky to get a room at all, because the manager (Raymond) told me a few days later that he hadn't expected me to show up, although I arrived as planned, in the early afternoon.
The food at the Quircasana is good, but the restaurant, which closes around 10.30 pm, is not adapted to cater for 48 guests (not enough staff in the peak season) and is also overpriced (all comparable restaurants on the beach offering the same quality, are cheaper).
The only reason why I would recommend this 'resort', is the nice garden and the great location: on the beach, next to Xavier's and separated from Furtado's only by the car park / taxi stand. Sernabatim probably has the cleanest and most quiet stretch of beach between Colva (crowded and dirty) in the north and Benaulim (noisy beach shacks at night) in the south, with lots of space, because there is no road going beyond Camilsons; if you stay in the B-block, the Arabian Sea (in which you can spot dolphins playing, but which can also be rough) is just far enough not to be disturbed at night by its waves or by the traditional fishermen bringing the nets ashore.
