We had an absolutely marvelous time in Goa, and in particular, living in your home. It was a wonderful, expansive haven for us when we wanted to retreat from the heat and recuperate from our day’s adventures. Although there were just the two of us, we found the openness and layout of the home easily could afford privacy for several couples. Every room is welcoming and well appointed. We enjoyed seeing all the photographs you’d placed around the home of your ancestral family—quite a legacy!
Anne, your house manager, is a gem. When we arrived, dead tired, we found she had thoughtfully stocked the refrigerator with water, beer, milk, and bless her, gin and tonic. She was full of excellent suggestions and always available by phone.
Your garden is lovely, and after Anne personally showed us the trail from the backyard that leads into town, we used it exclusively and enjoyed seeing the wild pigs, cattle, and water buffaloes along the way. Your upstairs patio also proved to be an excellent place to view the local ecology. With restoring cocktails in hand, we would marvel at the array of birds and butterflies that flock to your neighborhood each evening.
We soon learned the short “back route” to Colva Beach, which has fantastic restaurants and very little foot traffic compared to any place in North Goa. While Colva and environs boast many fine restaurants, we always seemed to find ourselves at Viva Goa, just a short walk from your home, because the food was so good and the waiters so amenable (and they deliver).
We all know that India’s power supply can be mercurial, so it was heartening to know that if the power went out, it was soon on again, thanks to your generator. Lovely, also, to be able to throw clothes in your washer and have them dry in just a half-hour on the clothesline strung in the botanical garden outside.
Your driver, Alex, was great. He showed us all the local sights and couldn’t have been more accommodating of our needs, such as when we wanted to see something off the beaten path or stop for groceries. He clearly knows every byway and highway in Goa and is a natural guide. He was an essential resource, and we were very grateful to have him on our team.
Thank you for extending your lovely home in your tropical paradise to us. We enjoyed every minute we were there, and hope to return often in years to come.
