We booked for Sunday lunch. First impressions were great, nice welcome from the patron who showed us to our table where we waited. And waited. After nearly 15 minutes of trying to catch a waiter’s eye we were given menus. He tried to scurry off but we insisted on ordering drinks. House red was good house white was disgusting. We had had the menus for two minutes when the patron came back with his order pad!!
Starters are limited and mainly expensive. Baby squid (with bizarrely a fried egg on it) was €13 and a prawn cocktail an eye watering €17. We had fish consommé which was OK but at €5 nothing special. My wife had leg of lamb which would have been very good except it was totally overwhelmed by salt. Horrendously salty. I had duck confit with which I requested pepper sauce rather than the sweet and sour on the menu. The duck was not confit, it was just roast. The sauce was hopeless, a thickened gloopy mess with the consistency of wallpaper paste and no discernible taste. No sign of a single peppercorn and no pepper till I ground a load in.
I think he knew we weren’t over happy as we were offered a brandy on the house. Best part of the meal.
If this had been €10 a head it would have been disappointing. At thirty it was a disgrace. Avoid!!
