On our first visit to Puerta Verde we ate the most delicious Asian prawn tapas - not what we would have expected on a tapas menu but utterly delicious with a mixed salad at lunchtime. The freshness of the salad was due to being grown in the garden on site by skilled gardener Susanne. Homemade ice cream changes regularly depending on what's good from the garden seasonally - strawberries during our visit. Her beautiful geraniums surround the tables and add to the overall bright and fresh environment.
We sat outside at pretty wooden tables listening to jazz from inside which made the checking of emails from home much more pleasant! Free wi-fi is on hand...couldn't help ourselves.
We returned for dinner and had a delicious Lanzarote Bermejo wine with a goats cheese salad to start, followed by rump steak with herb butter and a red Enate wine.
The menu is an interesting mix of local ingredients with some German influence - try the rosti with home made apple purée - but an overall European feel.
Susanne and Karl have created a great spot to have a lovely lunch, afternoon coffee and cake or relaxing dinner in Haria.
