My wife and I had seen this from afar several times while driving back and forth from Priego de Cordoba to Granada. After reading reviews we decided to devote a couple of hours to it. We actually wished we had more time. We got in for a reduced senior rate. As others have mentioned, it is not crowded at all. I guess it's just far enough off the beaten past, but not difficult to find and has good parking. It's really the remains of an entire walled, fortified city. Displays are really informative with good English translations describing everyday life there. There's a lot to see, including outstanding views. Absolutely worth seeking out.

In the mid - late XVth century, there were many goings on in this part of Spain as the Catholic Monarchs were trying to oust the Moors. As in many other parts, the area to the North of Granada was a constant battleground with the border between Christians and Moors moving back and forth as, first one side and then the other, gained the advantage. The Fortaleza de la Mota was a significant stronghold both to be won and to be held. Today, it is an example of how such strongholds were vital to both sides and how, with the aid of the Atalayas (watchtowers) battles were won and lost in those times.

During our trip from Granada to Córdoba, we stopped at Fortaleza de la Mota, a big fortified city, where most of the buildings were ruined. This amazing fortress was not overrun by tourist, in fact we were some of the only visitors that day. We were simply stunned by the size of the fortress, the walls was enormous and there was an amazing view of the entire area.

Some of the walls and buildings had been reconstructed, which made a good impression of how it had been, however some of the reconstruction (especially of some of the destroyed walls) was a bit too obvious. This was a minor flaw, and I would definitely recommend this for anyone in the area. Parking close by and only €6 entry.

The audioguide tries to take you back in time by telling about the history in a narrative way. Really quiet and nice to stroll around.

Yesterday, my wife and I toured this property and came away very impressed with not only the buildings, but the renovation, signage and general information. Micha at the ticket office was exceptionally helpful and welcoming. We encountered less than ten people in our 2 hour visit and were surprised as it is such a wonderful thing to do.
