The restaurant formerly called Meson Tio Faustino has changed hands and had a complete makeover under new owners. It is now called La Estancia and is an Argentinian steakhouse. I first met the owners, Luis and Gladys, in their other place, Mon Cafe (Plaza de Santa Maria), and have been a regular customer there and - more recently - at La Estancia. While I am not in any way connected to the business, I feel they should get an extra star for friendliness. If you take the trouble to walk a few hundred yards from the centre, out Calle Virgen del Socorro, you will find La Estancia has had a simple but stylish makeover. It has a very rustic, very authentic atmosphere and a short but satisfying menu with - as you might imagine - various types of grills or steaks predominating. Last time I was there, they had live music, which was very enjoyable. Was it one of the best meals I have ever had? Certainly not, but do try and empanada (a sort of pasty). Why do I keep going back? Good, unpretentious food at a very reasonable price. Nice atmosphere. Friendly people. It's not just me: ask anybody. Given the niche it fills in the ecosystem, it deserves "excellent" and that's what I've given it.
