We didn't consider the tram as an attraction, for us it was a mean of transport to get to san juan beach, i think that paying 1.45 euro for a tram that goes only once every 30 minutes is too much! produced by Bombardier takes ages to drive, I can't agree with those who wrote that it is nice way to visit, as I wrote before it is very slow and drives through all the apartments areas - so nothing really to see!
One important thing we did and shouldn't do: we bought 4 tickets thinking that we can use 2 to go and 2 to come back- the answer is: it is not working like this, so if you start your journey from mercado but only one way ticket and then when you will come back just buy the ticket in the tram!

The tram has air-con, takes you all the way to benidorm (with one change inbetween). Its very clean and easy to find seats.

The tram station is very clean, the trams run frequently, they are clean and comfortable. It took about an hour to travel from Alicante to Benidorm, with nice views along the coast. The only down side was there is a fairly long walk into Benidorm, the tram stop is high up, so the walk into town is okay but the walk back is pretty steep. The fare was 3.75 euros for a single adult fare.

Was anxious about using local transport but did not need to worry! The trams were so easy to use, with the purchase of tickets being obtained from either the station, or on board the train. My wife and I went to Altea which cost just over 8 euros each (approx £6.50) for a two hour journey. There are many stops on route and we had to change at Benidorm. The coaches were clean and air conditioned and gave the traveller advanced notice of each stop. The trams ran on time ( British Rail please note!) but sometimes were a little crowded dependant on which station you were going to. However the whole experience was nowhere near as bad as we first thought! Give it a try. You will be pleasantly surprised!.

If you take the bus shuttle from the airport (C6 bus) it leaves you in Plaza de los Luceros, from there you can take the tram anywhere along the beach to Benidorm and further. Tram has 3 lines with frequencies between 8 and 30 minutes. Going from Plaza de los Luceros in the city centre Alicante to Benidorm costs only 4.50 euros. If you go to the Campello, only 1.45. Really affordable clean and nice tram.
