Sun loungers collapsed many times and our room smelt of smoke as did some of the bedding but they were the only negatives about our stay. Clean and bright hotel, lovely pool area with plenty of sunloungers. Really close to the beautiful beach and tram to Alicante and Benidorm where we visited. Food in the restaurant was beautiful, up with the best we ate on our holiday. Wi Fi quite poor but access to a computer for free in the hotel was a great bonus for planning day trips.

Absolutely NOT value for money hotel. Rooms very old (it is unbelievable to see in a room in 2013 still a television old style as a big box).
The last night we asked to the reception to have the wake up call at 4 am in the morning since our flight was a 6:30 from Alicante to Copenahgen....that NEVER ringed. IF was not for my wife that set an alarm on the mobile phone , we would have been lost the flight for sure. Instead of refund us or apologies they even asked at the check out the laundry and the bottle of water we had in the room ...total 12 euro...

Consider also that life in Alicante is very cheap and for 2 nights in the hotel we spent almost as the rent of a nice apartment in front of the beach rented for 1 month!

We also left a complain on the holiday inn web site and we DID NOT receive a reply yet.

Room Tip: Renovate all the hotel. Select professional personnel who speak good English and if some services ar...

We've stayed many times at this hotel and never get tired of the area. We hire a car so its easy to get out and about and parking is free in the hotel. The beaches along this area are the best you can get on Costa Blanca. The hotel is clean and comfortable although its a little tired in the rooms. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the receptionists speak good English. Sometimes the bar is busy and you have to wait ages to be served but we've asked at reception to help out and someone normally does. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the beach where you will find many really good restaurants and not too expensive. The worst bit is walking back to the hotel! Lots of people are out walking along the promenade which makes for a good holiday atmosphere. Alicante is worth a visit. Definitely get a taxi up to the castle and walk down the other side. If you are up for a challenge then walk up but take some water - epecially if its hot. You can get a water taxi from one side of the harbour to the other which is just a bit of fun and its only a couple of euros. Definitely visit other beaches if you have a car. Arinales is the other side of Alicante and worth the 25 min drive from the hotel. Moraira is 45mins away to the north and worth a visit as well as the caves at Benitatxell.

Our second visit to this hotel and pleased with the standards of the hotel. Room well decorated and very clean with good daily maid service. Nice breakfast and a good choice to suit all palates including lots of fresh fruit. Hotel situated in a residetial area close to a fantastic beach and close to a good range of local shops bars and restaurants. Small pool and sun terrace although watch out for the sun beds as they tend to collapse. Only small niggle is no courtesy tray in the room although there is a well stocked mini bar not too expensive. Free fast wifi and free use of a computer. Good value in a lovely quiet part of Alicante. Some Basic spanish useful in the hotel and local area. Excellent bus and tram service. Stay in Alicante if you want the nightlife, stay in San Juan to recharge your batteries.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a suite if you want a balcony

My friend and I have just returned from a 5 day stay here and we were most pleasantly surprised after reading a bag of mixed reviews on here.
We arrived at Alicante mid morning and quickly cleared customs, (DO NOT waste your money on the expensive taxi ride approx €40 each way.) we headed outside where we bravely boarded public transport, there is a airport to Alicante transfer bus at the cost of €2.90 each in to the centre of alicante, we got off the bus at the central train station in the centre, this journey takes approx 25/30 mins.
We then crossed the road and got the number 21 bus to the holiday inn San juan at the cost of €1.45 this takes approx 25 min's but takes you right outside the hotel. Brilliant bus service at the fraction of the cost of a taxi!

When we arrived at the hotel it was very clean and welcoming, the reception staff have limited English but were very helpful, our check in wasn't until 4pm, we arrived around 1, they checked us in no questions asked so that was a welcome bonus.

On arriving to our room it was lovely, large room with 2 queen size beds, ample wardrobe space, a room safe and a lovely size bathroom with shower. It was well decorated and spotlessly clean. The room was cleaned and beds made daily by a lovely maid who again did not speak a lot of English but was very helpful.... Tip - tip her at the start of the week for a better service ;)

The wi fi was pretty good 90% of the time, no real issues but we were there for the sun not the "surfing the Internet" ;)
My only gripe with the room is the fact the beds were on wheels and the floor was laminate, not a good combination, they move around a lot! Lol

After unpacking we headed to the hotel pool which was a good size for dipping away from the hot sun, if your one for swimming lengths you will be disappointed as its more of a fun pool. There Is a separate kiddies pool for the young ones. There are plenty of sun beds around the pool, unfortunately they have seen better days and cannot count how many times they collapsed from sitting to lying position, which is funny the first few times but does become tedious lol. The pool bar is reasonably priced too so that's another plus point.

We had the Buffett breakfast during our stay, lovely fresh food and a good selection to choose from.

If you head out of the hotel up the road to the traffic lights and turn right after a short 5 min walk there is a very well stocked supermarket which is brilliant for snacks and water for those beach days. Also along that route on the opposite side of the road there are loads of small play parks so if you have little ones that want a few mins play its perfect.

The beach....... Probably one of the best I've been to for a long while. Walk out of the hotel turn left, walk down the hill and keep going for 6-8 mins and you will find yourself on a beautiful stretch of sandy beach. The sun loungers and umbrellas are €4 euros each per day that's from 10am till 7pm and u can leave and come back if your not a hardcore sunbather, if you arrive late afternoon this price reduces to €2 each. We made full use of these as we got a bit fed up of the dodgy hotel ones :)
There is a lovely walk up the beach where there is a small selection of cafe's/ restaurants and a yummy ice cream parlour. The selection is limited in San juan, and would recommend a short bus journey into el campello (using the 21 bus from outside the hotel) where the bar and restaurant selection is far better and more reasonably priced, there is also gift shops and other shopping available in the town.

We took the tram to benidorm during our stay, this took about an hour using tram line 4 from near the supermarket, you have to change to tram line 1 at losetum, it's a very easy simple system, you can buy Tickets on the tram, the return trip to benidorm cost €6.80 which is very cheap. I will say the walk from benidorm tram to the city/beach is very long approx 30 min walk and even worse coming back as it is all UPHILL! The beach is not even close to being a nice as San juan, ad it's just full of souvenir shops for miles and miles, we bought our gifts and left, really wasn't for us.

We took a trip into alicante town to the marina, using the 21 bus from the opposite side of the hotel, great restaurants and bars, lively vibrant town with lots going on. I recommend you visit the big tall ship in the harbour, €5 each to go on board to look around but then you can have a free drink on the top deck bar, Was wonderful.

Overall, a very successful stay in a lovely town with lots to offer.

I had visited this hotel a few times in the past and it's a very convenient hotel for the San Juan beach. The hotel itself is nice with large rooms featuring safes and a good selection of tv channels. The bathroom is big with everything you need. However the rooms have a few little flaws. The beds are set up on wheels, which is practical for some things but even when blocked the beds still move around a little. The tvs are still those old style Cathode Ray Tube TVS which I think in 2013 is unacceptable for a 4 star hotel in a developed country. Now, the hotel is overall very nice with a nice pool outside, a little gym and padel courts in the back. The parking area is fine although fills up on weekends. The WIFI finally worked decently this time (in my last visits it was really bad) but they should work on a few little flaws, like the dirty carpeting in the hotel that looks like it's straight out of a cheap motel. The bar apparently charges you for a bucket of ice! Although apart from that the prices at the bar are fair for a hotel. Finally, the staff was very nice but they never acknowledged my IHG Platinum membership level and never offered a room upgrade or anything else as they usually do in other IHG hotels I've been to in the past.
So overall, good hotel where you can get very good deals for your stays, but certainly not 4 star worthy. I would recommend it to anybody looking for a 3 star hotel for the San Juan beach area, but those looking for a good 4 star hotel could be a little disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators and not of the ground floor
