“Hotel Maya redux...five months later”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

Stayed here for a week this time following an exceptional stay in July 2012. This time things seemed to have gone down hill a bit. The hotel receptionist took an insanely long time to check us in although there were only two couples in front of us. I thought I'd pre-paid for my reservation but they no longer took AmEx. i attempted to pay with my credit card and it took several attempts before she could get it to work. I called my credit card company to make sure it wasn't an issue on my end and they assured me that they weren't even seeing the charges come through and that it was in fact an operator error. It didn't help that the receptionist clearly didn't understand a word I was saying to her so thankfully my partner interceded and spoke to her in Spanish.

All of that aside, the walls appear to have either gotten thinner or the other guests surlier. One night when my fiance and I were talking in normal indoor voices one evening and our neighbor started banging on the wall and screaming at us in some unfamiliar language. We called security and the issue was resolved. Two nights later, we were watching television and heard a polite rapping on the wall. I think that the beds are on the same wall so the noise carries if you happen to snore softly let alone have a conversation. We were awakened very early each morning with the noise of the maids cleaning in the halls and room next door.

The room was cleaned regularly and the staff were polite and professional...especially the bartender who helped me sort out a bottle of wine with a bad cork I'd received.

Overall, I think this is better as a summertime resort than a low season accommodation.

We booked the Maya for 10 days early October. On arrival we were greeted and check-in was smooth. We had a sea-facing room on the 10th floor . The balcony was enclosed but slide the balcony windows open and you wouldn't know. The hotel was clean and our room was quite spacious. Being on the 10th floor demanded a lift (there are 4 in total). Two had not long been installed and were most efficient. The disappointingl factor was the food. Breakfast was the same every day and was usually cold. Dinner was very repetitive. Having said that, it was excellent value for money. We found all the staff most pleasant and helpful - I must compliment the front-desk Manager, Yves – his English was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Location you could not beat. Access to the beach was a few minutes walk away; likewise the train/tram station, Marq, which will take you to Benidorm and further afield. The airport bus drops and picks up a few yards up the road. Under 3 euros each. A taxi from the airport cost 22 euros. The castle on the hill (opposite the hotel) is worth a visit as is a promenade along the front. We found the City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus an excellent mode of transport to get a feel of things (it even takes one up the hill for the the Castle! ) For shoppers, there is a large shopping mall a few minutes walk away. All in all, a good choice to spend a few days. Weather perfect!

Stayed here in September - booked very last minute due to original plans changing and booked because it was a great deal. We weren't disappointed. Location was great, just a short taxi ride from the airport. On arrival staff were very pleasant, there was only one issue when I booked online it said check in was 12 so when we arrived just before 12 and were told we couldn't check in until 3pm I wasn't impressed. However the man at the desk was helpful when I questioned this. We ended up being able to check in about 1.30pm (when we got to the room and read their brochure it turns out their check in is actually 4pm!!!) just something to mention.
We never ate here so can't comment on that, but there is plenty of places only 5-10 minutes walk away by the beach front and also around by the marina. So for that reason the location is great! There is also a shopping centre about 4minutes away which has a McDonald's and other places to eat and also a huge supermarket - good for fresh bread Etc.
pool area at the hotel is great, very clean pool and plenty of sun beds. There is also tennis courts.
Overall I was very satisfied with this hotel. Hotel maids were great, came every day and left the place spotless and changed towels if needed. Would definitely stay again. Was pleased for such a last minute decision.

Just returned from our 9 night stay at the Maya , which we will give 6/10 , we booked h/b but could have done b/b but not if you want a hot breakfast , cold bacon and eggs at 7,30am its not on, I have noticed complaints about this on your site before but its still happening. As for the hotel itself its clean and tidy enough, main point its very handy for bus stop 02 into town and Marq tram station at the roundabout good for us "oldies" just outside. Also I know your not there to watch tv but all spainish channels only, sky news would be good after a long day sightseeing.

Room Tip: high floor with a sea view

Spent 3 nights at the Maya with friends at the end if September. Had a very pleasant stay at very a competitive price. Staff were very helpful and the rooms were a good size (all 3 with a sea view as requested). Great variety available at breakfast, including a cooked option. Hotel is well placed for the beach, tram stop and castle. Walk into centre of Alicante takes 10/15 minutes. Would recommend the Maya as a decent 3 star hotel that won't break the bank.

Booked A Superior room with a sea view through Booking.com. as that was the best price on the internet.
First room we were given was a basic room, (I had printed the photographs off the web site so they could not dispute it. The second room was a superior but did not have a sea view, the third room had glass windows on the balcony which was s***, so I declined that one as well. the fourth room was a Superior with a sea view which is what they should have given us in the first place.
As a previous reviewer said, DONT BELIEVE THE PHOTOS.
Apart from this first days blip, we had a fantastic week,

As regards previous moans and groans:

dodgy breakfast, THIS IS A SPANISH HOTEL.
Thin walls, THIS IS A SPANISH HOTEL
Slow reception, THIS IS A SPANISH HOTEL
For the price paid, this was excellent value, as we were room only we only ate in the hotel three times,we had breakfast once, it was ok, but a walk into the old part of the city and more choices at a better price. We had evening meal twice, yes food not that hot, but good value for price paid, but once again a short walk and numerous restuarants too choose from. Alicante is a lovely city and well worth a visit and the beuty of this hotel is that it is close to the beach as well as being close to the city, and also the tram station is only just across the street..
Would reccommend this hotel for the price paid, as they say, you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Pay for a superior room on a high floor for the sea view

Stayed here for just over a week. Weather was perfect for mid September. Hotel is lovely, good deal for breakfasts which saved us getting up and looking for somewhere to eat. Good continental style buffet with fruit, cheeses, meats etc so was very well priced if paid in advance.
Pool was good with sun lounges. Could be very busy at peak season but we didn't have any problems. It was nice as the area got the sun for the day but there are areas that you could get some shade if it got too hot. As it was late in the season we only got the end of the poolside entertainment which was very good. Mainly bingo, dance lessons and other things like that but really made it a fun way to pass the hours at the pool.
The beach was also only 5 minute walk which was great for a change and a wander into town was only another 5-10 minutes past that. So going out for dinners was very convenient and plenty of choice from tapas, pinxto's, paella to pizza, burgers and seafood.
Staff were friendly and willing to help and I would definitely go back again
