“Melia Alicante”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This hotel has an odd layout that can be a bit confusing at first. Also both rooms and the reception area were being renovated, when we had a four night stay, earlier this month. We had a standard room at a very good rate. it had not been renovated but was perfectly fine, clean and well serviced. The hotel is very centrally situated and seems to cater as much for business as travel but that's no bad thing. We paid for a sea view but wouldn't bother next time as rooms on either side of the building have pleasant views, sea one side harbour the other.

Alicante is a great little town that hasn't been taken over by tourism. It's easy to find great food (especially tapas) both on and off the beaten track. The bars are great and evenings are well spent, eating tapas and drinking the house red (which was invariably lovely). Not being a full-on tourist town helps keep prices were fair and for the same reason, not everyone speaks English, which actually adds to the fun.

We were a large group of people meeting here, from diffirent part of the world

Upon arrival, we were a little dissappointed wuth the entrance which was in the process of renovation, and we understood that but at least they could of had someone there all the time to at least sweep as there was so much dust, which you take into the lobby and your room, or even a couple of carpets when you step up to the reception.

We also took a taxi from the airport and it was on 19 euros, which was find, but the airport is close by and you can take the bus which is really cheap and it takes you in half hour.

Check in was smooth, but again when we were making the booking we asked for sea view of the marina and double bed, and we got twin beds and side marina view, not really a good view.

I went back to reception to ask why we didnt get the room we asked for, there was a receptionist who was bald, and was uninterested in our problem and I was brushed off and he said that they were fully booked out, and sometimes things like this happen.

I also went the next day to the reception to try again, and spoke to a lovely young lady in the reception who was very friendly, and she told me that we could get upgraded but the day after to a room with a lovely beach view, I think in this hotel they put where ever they can, and then they will switch you over to another room if you complain if your paying for standard room.. However we decided against it, as we were going to leave early for an excursion the day after and this wouldnt be convinient for us.

The breakfast area is beautifull, all glass window area, with good breakfast selection, There is a lot of constuction in the hotel, and sometimes it might be noisy but it is a great locations and proabably the best hotel in Alicante.

Outside of the hotel a short walk to the old town, or the beach strip with many little places to eat at, or behind the casino many places to drink and eat at..

There really arent many good choices in Alicante so I would go back to this hotel, if I ever returned.

My wife and I had a 4 day break to celebrate her birthday .Lovely hotel, level rooms well worth the upgrade , level service includes bar and snacks throughout the day. Service fantastic especially Alina who was brilliant . Got the bus from Airport @ 2.75 Euros , 2 stops drops you off outside hotel . Food in code bar good but a bit pricey . Building works going on at lobby area but did not bother us at all .We stayed on the 5th floor with a sea view , jacuzzi bath and hydro massage shower. Breakfast was great with plenty to choose from, with great views across the beach . Weather mixed mostly overcast with light showers but didn't stop us having a great time . Met some fantastic people and had a such a laugh . Would recommend this hotel and plan to visit again .Alan & Andrea , Scotland

Room Tip: suggest level room upgrade with sea view

My wife and I booked a junior suite on the Level at the Melia Alicante and once past the miserable hotel staff at the reception we arrived on the 5th floor to the Level. What a difference in staff attitude we experienced from then on. The concierge on the Level , Alina was a credit to the hotel. She obviously had pride in her job and she exuded a genuine helpfulness in every thing she did. Nothing was too much trouble for her. The self service breakfast in the main restaurant was of a consistently high quality and the view across the bay was excellent. The Code bar was a little bereft in atmosphere on the occasion we used it when the complementary Level bar was not open, on the Sunday of our stay. The complementary drinks however were made available for that period so we didn't miss out. The junior suite was excellent, lovely big bed, great shower and jacuzzi bath and a balcony and complementary mini bar went down well. The Terra restaurant provided good food but it was expensive. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, met some great people, had a good laugh. Yes there was building work going on but it did not effect our stay. Simon & Liz D (London)

We stayed here for four nights. Taxi from the airport is €22 and takes about 20 mins. Checkin was quite quick and they were very helpful. Our room wasn't ready and was before checkin time. The receptionist did check with house keeping. So we left our luggage in a locked storage room and went for lunch. Our room was on the 5th floor and was light and bright. The room was facing the sea and swimming pool. There were lovely toiletries and a decent hairdryer, with plenty of soft towels. The shower is over the bath. The tv has lots of channels including BBC, BBC2. ITV, ITV2.
Plenty of storage areas and wardrobes. Nice comfy chair and coffee table.
The hotel offers free wifi in the rooms and in public areas but you do need to get a code from reception for usage in the public areas. I did find using the iPad the signal in our room was poor. Yet if I sat by the door the signal was good.
Breakfast was a feast with fantastic views out to sea and towards the beach. Lots is on offered although I did find the hot food was slightly on the cool side. You can even participate in a couple of glasses of bubbly if you wish. This would make it a nice place to take someone for a special occasion. Breakfast was well worth the extra charge.
I did try to use the swimming pool but it was a tad on the cool side and the position of the hotel means that the building shades the swimming pool in the afternoon from the sun.
As mentioned before if you want to use the indoor pool etc, there is an extra charge. Perhaps they shouldn't mention any of these facilities if they are run by a third party.
The bar in the reception area was nice and reasonably priced.€2.65 for a coffee I would say for a four star hotel dam good value. Others must have thought the same as it was always busy. Nice to see and well done to the hotel. Charge a reasonable cost and people will use it.
The hotel is situated on a slight Peninsular so has great views. It's also positioned mins away from the tram station with trams running regularly. The tram to Benidorm takes about 80 mins and is €6.10 return what a bargain.
The bus that takes you to and from the airport stops again a few mins walk from the hotel. Runs every 20mins and takes less than 30mins. It is the C6 and costs €2.75 a bargain. The hotel positioned is classed as the port of Alicante.
Would I stay again yes I would. Yes, they are doing building work which is dusty and noisy as you enter the hotel but doesn't impact on your stay.
The property would have got an excellent rating off me if they had offered complimentary water in the rooms. Free use of indoor pool etc and no building work.

Room Tip: Sea views are good.

Second stay, the first time was only there for a few hours due to a cancelled flight. The rooms are large and comfortable but we knew from experience not to touch the mini bar.Staff friendly cant really fault much, i think that the price we paid ( 115 euros ) that parking should be included that was another 20 euros on top.
