Excellent location, within easy reach of main facilities/town. Found restaurants/bars in town offered much better value than those around the marina where we had possibly the worst quality (most expensive) meal of our holiday! But it is lovely to walk around of an evening.

Check in & check out took an absolute age. Myself and my daughter waited in the main lounge bar area whilst my friend checked us in, and we were quite disturbed to see a VERY obviously drunk couple of men sat in the bar area (could barely hold their heads up!!) still getting served yet more alcohol by the bar-man, then one of the men was sick all over himself and the floor!! Quite disgusting!! They left the bar and the staff didnt even bother to clean it up off the floor! Really awful start to our holiday and not what we would expect to see in a 4 star hotel in the mid-afternoon! Luckily that was the only poor experience of our stay.

The room was an excellent size with a separate lounge area and very clean. Also a lovely large balcony which enabled us to sit out of an evening enjoying a glass of wine overlooking the sea.

The area felt safe at night and we all enjoyed many a midnight stroll along the beach.

If you are a beach lover you couldn't wish for a better location it is literally on your doorstep. Beach was clean, however the sea was pretty grim on occasions, I even witnessed female sanitary products (amongst other grotesque items) floating by.

Overall a pleasant place to stay (better if you have a sea-view). Good internet access when we were there too.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room/higher floor

Just returned from the Melia Hotel Alicante and I have to say its position for all the (many) attractions in Alicante is perfect.
We stayed in a beach/sea view room on the fourth floor and had wonderful views. Going to sleep each night with the sound of waves lapping on the shore was wonderfully soothing. As many have said, these get the sun in the morning, but heavy drapes stop it being too light and - if you're an early bird - watching the sunrise is pretty spectacular. Note that the air conditioning will work even though the door is open - as ours was all day and night. We found the mini bar was quite expensive, so just bought water from the kiosk on the front (turn right out of the hotel and the kiosk is on the promenade). There are plenty of places to eat and drink within a five minute walk of the hotel. Breakfast was amazing, think of everything you could eat for breakfast, double it and then add some (paella anyone?) The orange juice is fresh and tea or coffee is bought to your table. Don't leave it too late for breakfast though, we found some of the food luke warm if we were down late.
All the staff were professional, polite and helpful.
Alicante was a delight. The walk along the promenade and into the "new " Alicante through the parks was lovely and the old "Barrio" was full of tapas bars and places to tempt you to eat. A little Spanish was useful (just the basics) as it's not catering specifically for tourists (unlike, say, Benidorm). We enjoyed visiting the Castle, the lift is on the other side of the road to the promenade, near the new white over-road bridge, which you can't miss.
Alicante is lovely and we shall probably return - we wouldn't look at any other hotel, to be honest, it's so handily placed. You can usually get a good deal through one of the booking sites on Trip Advisor.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the sea are the best (odd numbered rooms). Quieter and with an amazing view of the...

Long weekend holiday in Melia Alicante. Good hotel (provided you don't expect full air conditioning out with summer months - which we did!!!), and great location. It is much closer to the beach and the town centre than maps show - really great location. Only real disappointment was the aforementioned lack of air conditioning. Despite advertising air con, when we arrived Frid 20th April - 22 degrees mind - there was no air con working in the bedroom. Had to therefore leave the patio doors open all night to get some fresh air. On enquiring we were told that air con is "centrally controlled" and not due to be switched to room control until May/June. Not much use for us Brits not used to 18 / 19 degrees at night. And beware of a G & T in the hotel bar - 10 Euros a piece! But the location made the hol and would definitely consider going back - but would check that the aircon was switched on. There are lots of fantastic bars and tapas restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel - great prices and great food. The small cafes along the beach are very good too - and very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Asked for a sea view - they did move us - 2nd floor but with a restricted view of the sea. And we w...

Stayed here for 4 days in mid April. 1st night I noticed the aircon wasnt working, went to reception to find out if there was an issue. Reception staff said it was a central unit and it wouldnt be on for a month!
Thought something had got lost in translation - a 4 star hotel couldnt have a serious downside like that.
As I was travelling with small children A/C is very important to us in a warmer climate.
Sofa bed was in the room with balcony, so couldnt leave that open for the kids to get some fresh air. All still awake with the heat at 4.30am, made a complaint to the night manager (again he said 1 month for Aircon )and I filled in an official form at reception.
At 9am I again went to reception and met with two junior managers Carlos & Laura (?).
Offered a change of room to 2nd floor where it was cooler and a discount of 20Euro on 1st night. The hotel Manager was never available to talk to me. At one time while I was complaining a further two guests were also at reception asking for the Manager.

Luckily the weather got cooler during the week, plus I learned to keep the balcony open during the day/early evening.

Very poor show, I assume the aircon switch off was a cost cutting exercise as most staff members knew it was off until sometime in May yet Carlos insisted it would be ok the day after was due to leave (convenient, eh!).

Apart from that debacle - the location is amazing, hotel itself is clean and spacious.
Breakfast with the 50% discount loyalty card (available at reception) is a no brainer. Great food and lots of it.

Room Tip: 2nd floor much cooler than 4th due to higher balconys limiting sun during the day.

Stayed here for a week at the end of march. We got a very good rate online with the hotel webiste but had to request a room change after our first evening. We arrived late on a Saturday evening and had been allocated a room facing the casino. We didn't get any sleep as there was a festival in full swing. The noise was unbelievable and I was very cross that the hotel knew this but still chose to put us in a room that was exposed to such unbearable noise. We waited the whole of the next day for a room even though there was one available but this was on the fifth level floor which provides complimentary breakfast and refreshments. We hadn't paid the supplement so weren't eligible to be roomed here. Found this annoying as we lost a night and the following day of a seven day break because of lack of sleep and waiting to be re roomed.
Eventually we got a new room on the second floor facing the sea and it was beautiful. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms ( we had booked a suite) but this was much better than the original suite in terms of decor and layout. The rooms were spotless, all the staff we encountered were polite and courteous.
We didn't get to sample breakfast as we had booked room only but the hotel is central to the old town with numerous cafes and bars.
Alicante is lovely. It is a traditional Spanish city with lovely churches and buildings. The castle looking over the city is worth a visit.
I would recommend the Melia but do check your room allocation. The rooms facing the beach are better

Room Tip: Rooms looking over the casino are noisy
