“delicious”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

I just discovered this place last week and have already been back twice. The food is delicious - traditional Spanish tapas with a modern inventive twist and a great wine selection. It is not cheap but the price is worth it for the high quality of the food. I would definitely recommend and will be back!

“Delicious, Coeliac friendly, genuine Spanish experience.”
Reviewed August 30, 2011

Service was exceptionally friendly and warm. When I said I had Coeliac disease I was given freshly baked gluten free bread which was THE BEST gluten free bread I have ever tasted. Fresh, crusty and delicious. We couldn't believe it was gluten free. Plus, the Tapas were divine, and the waitress patiently guided us through the menu, suggesting Coeliac suitable dishes, and also Tapas that she thought our children would enjoy- and she was right there! At the end of our meal we were all given a lovely complimentary sorbet. Perfect in the intense heat. (We were sitting outside late in the evening and it was still 31'C) Overall, in my opinion this restaurant is a must on any visit to Alicante.

“Creative Tapas”
Reviewed August 24, 2011

What a lucky find in what we believed would be a dull city and a culinary desert! We stumbled upon La Barra by chance, attracted by a contemporary decor and a creative menu (which - to my mind - is always a good sign!) Tapas were great, do not miss their signature octopus, staffed pepper or else egg cream cooked at 60 degrees C, but the main course - steak fillet with foie gras - was even better. Desserts were delightful as well. Easily the best food option in Alicante!

“A great end to a bad day!”
Reviewed June 22, 2011

After the day we had I couldn't have imagined anything possible to change our mood...this place achieved the impossible. The ambiance was noisy and festive since the Las Hogueras festival was going on but we liked it. The space is modern and clean. Each dish that came out of the kitchen had our mouths watering. We began with a tart apple, fois, and goat cheese (x2) followed by stuffed meatballs, pimento stuffed with cod mousse, artichoke stuffed with baby squid and who cares what else... You get the picture? We sat at the bar and drank Tempernillo recommended by the tender along side absolutely some of the best food we have ever eaten. Being from NY this is a surprise. I always knew that Spain has good food but this put Alicante in a new category. You may not have the serendipitous experience we did, but you will probably have some great tapas y vino!

“Quite Good, But.......”
Reviewed June 22, 2011

The decor 9/10, the food 9/10, the service 8/10.
Now the BUT. The mix of the restaurant and tapas bar (outside) is not a good one. Tourists sitting outside in shorts and swimwear, going inside to use the same toilet (just 1 male and 1 female) as those from the restaurant.
On our visit, 2 girls were in the toilet for a long, long time, with customers from the restaurant having to wait.
Don't think it a good mix and time will tell for the owner.
Should keep the shutter blind for the windows in restaurants closed, to stop tose walking past on the esplanade peering in whilst you dine.
