“Excellent location!”
Reviewed December 23, 2013 via mobile

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was small but we managed just fine. Bathroom was great. Plenty of closet space. Location was great.

Hotel did offer breakfast but we thought the price was high. We found a nice cafe a block away on the esplanade. Perfect for us.

Hotel staff had suggested a local restaurant for dinner. Terrific. I love it when Momma is in the kitchen cooking. Nice family place. We went back the next evening. When we left there were kisses all around.

This hotel contributed to a nice short stay...can't wait to go back.

Best thing about the hotel is the location. Just off the front, near the marina and a 3 minute walk from the airport bus stop. It's on the edge of 'El Barrio' - where the main nightlife is. Not sure what it would be like in the summer but, despite its central position it was quiet at night. We had an interior room so this probably helped. The breakfast was only ok. Machine coffee although not the worst I've had (see my review of Playa Cibeles - Gandia). Fruit juice was the powdered stuff I reckon. If cold salty tortilla is your thing you're in luck. Reception staff were perfunctory but then again we didn't have any particular needs/demands.
Alicante is well worth a visit - for the nightlife (quirky bars) and the spectacular castle. Struggled to wade through the swathes of pizza restaurants to find decent Spanish food. Settled for Sale y Pepa pizza place - hiked up the price of the wine from €13.50 to €16, then €18 when we queried it. The manager suggested it was a language problem, even though we speak competent Spanish.

Room Tip: Interior room if you want to guarantee no noise. I'd imagine it's noisy in the summer at the...

Stayed one night here as we had a flight to catch from the airport next day. Very close to the sea front and the bus stop for the airport. All other attractions within easy walking distance. Tucked away in a back street so had a bit of trouble finding it. Once inside, staff were reasonably helpful. Room was small but adequate for our one night. Clean and tidy with a balcony overlooking the street. Breakfast was surprisingly good, lots of choice and reasonable quality. Good price

Stayed for 4 nights, booked balcony room via easy jet. Caught bus from airport to marina, short walk from bus stop. Very convenient situation, close to marina shopping areas and restaurants. The reception staff are excellent - provided maps and indicated areas of interest, and booked a restaurant for us. They also were happy to store our luggage as our flight was late afternoon. The room had two balconies and was clean and comfortable - was a touch small, but worked well for us. Breakfast (included in our rate) was a bit basic but: OK fruit juice; good coffee; good mini croissants, plus other stuff. More than satisfactory for our needs.
So this hotel worked great for our first visit to Alicante - and really great value for the price we paid. We liked Alicante, would like to return, and would re-book here without hesitation.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms, although only views to streets, still worth having. Junior suites desirable if got fo...

4 night stay in September 2013. Good location, very clean rooms, decent continental breakfast. Only downside was our room 101, couldn't flush anything down the toilet which was a bit of a pain, don't expect that in Alicante. Overall though pretty good for the price paid

We've just returned from a holiday in Alicante, where we stayed at Hotel Explanada. I can confirm the excellent location of the hotel: close to the beach, close to the old city, a stone's throw from tens of small restaurants with good food.
Good points for the hotel: AC working, everything squeaky clean, towels changed whenever asked. Last but not least, the staff of the hotel is very helpful and kind. They speak English and at least two of them also speak French.
Bad points: a bad surprise was our room. It was unimaginably small, with windows mounted very high, close to the ceiling and tinted windows, so no natural light whatsoever. When we bought the room the agency said the room had inner view, which we presumed it was in the inner court of the hotel. Actually, inner meant... windows with a view inside the room. Nothing else. It was the smallest room I have ever seen and quite shocking for me. It is also the reason why I gave the hotel such a low mark because everything else was remarkable. But, if you want to sleep well, such a room is perfect because there are no noises whatsoever.

Room Tip: Do not book a room with "inner / inward view" unless you want a quiet room.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week whilst in Alicante. The hotel was excellent by our standards. We had a clean, comfortable room, which was equipped with air conditioning and a fridge. There was also a balcony that looked onto the street and was a nice place to sit at night and read etc. Bathroom was also spacious enough for a couple sharing and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a nice selection at the continental breakfast in the morning. As for the location, you could not ask for a more well situated hotel! Literally a minute walk and you are at the front which looks on to the harbour with many restaurants and a long street market. Three minutes walk to the left and you will come to the beach and a few more minutes and you can access Castle Santa Barbara. Also within minutes walking distance you will find an excellent selection of bars, restaurants and the beautiful cathedral. About 10 mins walking distance is the tram station, meaning you can explore other areas of the region.

Overall, we had a great stay at this hotel and would definitely stay again. I'm not sure about families but definitely ideal for couples looking to explore Alicante!!

Places to visit-

Castle Santa Barbara
Street market stalls on the front
Playa de Postiguet (beach)
San Nicholas Cathedral
Plaza de Santa Maria
Parque de Estremis
Take the tram and go a day trip, we went to Altea, was lovely.
