“Great position and for the price...”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We only had one night in Alicante and needed to be near the marina. This hotel is five minutes from the C6 bus stop from the airport and the same distance from the marina. Sitiated in the Old Town it is minutes away from almost eveything you want, places to visit, tapas bars and resturants. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We were in room 204, which overlooks the side street, higher numbers are on the busier street, and I would suspect suffer from more traffic noise, so if possible go for the lower numbered rooms. Some posts have said the beds are very hard, they are certainly firm, but we both slept very well indeed. Our room was a good size, storage for a ship's company and a more than ample shower room etc and clean. Slightly odd was the 'fridge on the floor at the bottom of the bed filled with soft drinks, but it happily took the bottle of beer purchased from the Chinese run supermarket five minutes away on the other side of the Medez Nunez which sells EVERYTHING! No bar at the hotel but there is one immediately below. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, but there is a cafe 3 minutes away in the Calle Mayor, often filled with students on the way to university - a good sign of value - where a good Spanish traditional breakfast can be had for about 5 euros a head. It was our first visit to Alicante but this hotel is part of the reason why we have decided to return for a longer visit, at 45 euros a night this place is a steal!

I got a very good price for bed and breakfast at this hotel so didn't expect much and wasn't disappointed. The location is very good, being in the old town one street back from the seafront. It is a short walk from the airport bus stop and easy to find (like everything in Alicante, thanks to the grid system street layout). My room was spartan but very clean and the bed comfortable. Sound proofing, despite the hotel's claims was non-existent; you could hear your neighbours a bit too well and the soil pipes from higher floors made a bit of a racket. The street coud be noisy but that just became a background noise and not really disturbing. I wouldn't recommend paying extra for the breakfast as it was pretty awful unless you really like cheap, sugary processed foods. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. For the money, it's OK but if you can afford a bit more, I'd search around a bit more.

The hotel is within minutes from the old town, Levante marina and Postiguet beach. The airport bus C6 stops at Postiguet beach and is only a short walk away. The hotel is on a busy street, but although I am a light sleeper, the traffic didn’t bother me. I would recommend a room at higher floors though.

The hotel is an ideal basis for those coming from boats in Alicante marina or those who want an easy access to the beach. Old town restaurants and bars are few minutes away and the main shopping area is only a ten minutes away.

The hotel itself is very basic, reminding me of an IKEA showroom, but most importantly the room was very clean and tidy. All staff were very friendly and unlike elsewhere in Alicante, spoke fluent English.

The breakfast was the usual continental affair, but of good quality.

My only complaint about the hotel is that the bed was too hard for me.

Room Tip: Rooms at higher levels.

My partner and I stayed in the Hotel Explanada in Alicante in April. First impression of the hotel was that it’s been renovated to a good standard in IKEA type furniture. The place was spotless and quite comfortable except for the bed which felt like it was owned by Fred Flintstone……It was rock hard. Some may like that, we didn’t.
There was a sound of water rushing through our room at all times of day. I think it was the toilet flushes from the rooms above. Sitting in our bed at night to think what was flying past us was well……disconcerting. And noisy.

Breakfast was a part of our deal. The food was basic, with little choice. The plates were TINY, therefore to have a good breakfast, if you could find something fancied you would have to return to the food dispenser 6 times.
All in all, the hotel was OK for the price.

Just one point…..My partner left a silver antique pill box with important medical tables in it in our room. She called the hotel on our return to England, they said they had found the box and would send it to us.

We are still waiting. How very disappointing

David
