Very easy and simple place, normally crowded during weekends. Tapas are something unbelievable, they can turn the simple and fresh spanish cuisine into something exquisite and original. Ingredients are chosen with an expert eye and combinations of them are surprising and rewarding. Beer and wine choice is also good.
Thumbs up for the informal atmosphere, you will feel yourself at ease after 5 seconds.

Visited with a group of six, including one Spaniard, which was a great help to explain and translate the options on the menu.

We shared about 10 dishes and pretty much sampled all of the smaller offerings on the menu. Highlights were wonderfully tender ox tail, a surprisingly good beans, ham and egg dish and great calamari on toast with tomatoes and prawns. Wines and beers were cheap and plentiful.

The restaurant had a lovely relaxing atmosphere, with a good mix of young and old.

Definitely recommended.

I have spent a lot of time in Spain, visiting many towns and cities throughout. I have sampled some very nice food mainly found in the bigger cities such Barcelona or Valencia but this little gem was found in Alicante. The food was exceptional, amazing variety of tapas dishes make this my favourite restaurant in the whole of Spain. If your looking for seriously nice tapas of a more adventurous nature than your standard high street restaurant tapas, at very affordable prices, in traditional Spanish setting and atmosphere, then this is the place for you.

Alicante proved a pleasant surprise overall, an easy to navigate city with a good mix of interesting places to see and dine. El Foc is centrally located on a side street near one of the main Ramblas and close to the NH Cristal Hotel.

We arrived at El Foc in early afternoon, perhaps a little too promptly to lunch with the locals but I was on northern European time. Over the course of our meal the place filled up with a well-heeled crowd of professional Spaniards and gratifyingly few tourists. The interior is atmospheric with a rustic feel; sandy coloured brick and stone walls, subdued lighting and tables fashion from old wine barrels. Blackboards list the wines and specials.

Surprisingly rare in Spain, El Foc offers a reasonable selection of wines by the glass including several appealing labels from the nearby regions of Jumillia and Yecla. The menu is immediately captivating with a good selection of hot and cold cositas (titbits / goodies), meats, and toasted breads topped with delicacies. They do a Salmoejo Cordobes, a fantastic southern Spanish cold creamy tomato soup made with tomatoes, bread, oil, garlic. Theirs also includes celery and cucumber. Highlights of our great meal here included: an excellent Hanburguesa de Caballo (Horse burger), Habitas con Chipirones al cava y mente – (Broad beans and small squid cooked in cava and mint), the Tostada de Magret de Pato con confitura de cebolla, manna y foie (Duck breast on toast with onion jam, and foie gras) and the plate of the day, a rich tasty paella.

I'd really like to return at night, I get the impression that that when this place shines. Without question the best meal we ate in Alicante and, given the quality and inventiveness of the cuisine, one of the most economical. I tried the Pontos & Torres Reloj. We languished for close to two hours over this stunning meal in friendly surroundings and I can’t wait to return.

One of my very favorite places in Alicante...offers amazing wines, you will get here great variety of leading Spanish wines all across the country just by glass. Amazing cheese and jamon plates as a started. In my opinion, the best is the bread with duck breasts and fois, laid on caramelized onions with apples. I am convinced it contains some drugs, becuase this huge tapa is simply addictive. NI reservations possib, therefore, especially on Friday ands Saturday, make well sure you arrive right after the opening, after nine you will never get a chair, becuase the place is simply packed.
