The main draw for me going to this hotel was the San Juan Beach which was a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The beach is just miles and miles of beach with a wide walking/running/cycling area. When going on the beach the first 50 metres deep is volleyball, football, basketball, children areas – all free of course. Then the rest of the beach, as you get closer to the sea, is either plain sand for you to lay your towel on or pay 4 euro for a sunbed.
The hotel is in a late 70s tower block, one of many in that area which are predominantly residential. It has had a makeover with a very nice reception and all areas were spotlessly clean. Front desk staff spoke perfect English and were very helpful. Bar staff were very helpful but as you’d expect with a lesser command of English. No question of a 3 star standard and comparable to maybe a Premier Inn back home but with larger rooms.
We didn’t eat in the hotel as there was so much around, including a Mc Donalds I’m afraid to say on the beach front but apart from that you can have anything you like from traditional Spanish to Chinese or pizza. We usually ended our night in the hotel bar as a bottle of wine was 6 euros.
You are in the suburbs of Alicante which funny enough is very Spanish. You’ll get by with no Spanish but a little would help.
A taxi is always an option and as at April 2013 it was a fixed price of 27 euro from the airport to the hotel. However, if you follow the bus directions from inside the airport it takes you 2 floors up to the C6 bus. The bus 2.75 euros takes you in to Alicante town, where you get off at the stop Puerto Del Mar. The C6 has a digital display and voice announcements so you can get it wrong.
At the exact same bus stop where you get off the C6 you can catch the 21 or 22 bus which stop outside the hotel for another 1.40 euro. Alternatively if you walk 200 metres to the right you can get the C4 tram. BTW catch the C6 also at the same stop to go back to the airport.
We took the bus which took about 20 minutes. There is a digital sign at the bus stop to say when the next bus is arriving, take the 21 out of choice as it doesn’t go to as many back streets as the 22 bus. As with most journeys the last half mile is the most difficult so I looked for some markers to help. These buses don't have arrival information displayed.
As you are approaching the street parallel to your hotel you will see a Holiday Inn on the left, easy to spot day or night. At the end of the ‘Holiday Inn’ hotel street the bus will turn left and this is the street the hotel is on but it is a long street. Half way down on the right you’ll see a distinctive restaurant called The White Pepper (which has large green signage if travelling at night). Your hotel is 2 stops (about 300 metres) on the left hand side but the busses stop on request so be careful and the hotel main entrance is not facing this road and you can only see their conservatory facing this street which has the hotel name in white writing on glass so is difficult to spot.
So get off the bus 2 stops after the white pepper, look across the other side of the road about 5 degrees left and you see the face of the hotel with a large sign on it.
We spent 4 nights there and were very pleased with the hotel, defiantly a ‘go backer’ for a great hotel at a very reasonable price. When exiting the main entrance go left to some 24 hour shops for you water etc but also left is the lovely cafe 2000 which opens at 7.30 and the owner cannot do enough for you and as she lived in London for a while spoke perfect English.
