Great day out to this quiet, quirky little village. Well worth a visit if your in the area.Guadalest, the 'Eagle's Nest', is located about 25 km inland from Benidorm along the CV-70 road, just over 1 hour from Alicante. It enjoys one of the most spectacular locations of any village in Spain, set high up on a pinnacle and carved out of a mountain top in the midst of truly stunning scenery. It has a population of only 200 but is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain.

A bit touristy, but the mountains behind Benidorm are really great to escape from the terrible drunken, crowded atmosphere...

Beautiful views of the valley, very serene looking lake. Luckily not many tourists around on the day we visited but it's not easily accessible for those travelling without a car. It was quite surprising that most people at the Alicante bus station didn't have any info on buses to guadalest. We were told that there's a bus from Benidorm autobus station to guadalest valley which was totally wrong. To save the day we spent around 27 euros on a cab to reach the castle and again 30 euros to come back to the benidorm bus station.
Here are the facts to make your trip easier -
From Alicante - there's no direct bus from Alicante. The one and only public bus leaves from a bus stop next to benidorm tram station( its very easy to reach this station by trams from alicante but maybe a bit time consuming). The public bus leaves for guadalest at 10:00 and there's only one bus for the return which is from guadalest car park area leaving at 13:30. But taking this bus will leave you with very little time for spending at the valley. So it's best to decide carefully before selecting this option.
We liked the castle and the house, both are well kept and you can see the beautiful lake from the windows. The museum of micro miniatures by Manuel Ussa was unbelievable and highly recommended. Even the museum of doll houses by Antonio Marco was lovely. Overall time well spent.

The Guadalest valley is interesting to visit, but make sure that you get out of the car and go for a walk in the hills and around the lake to really enjoy the place.
