“Charm and elegance in the Basque countryside”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

The road to get here has the last 1200mts only one track, full of curves and bad ground. But worth it. A beautiful villa, one huge room , nicely decorated, rustic but elegant, one large bathroom with excellent bath and fine toiletries. A large glass window to see the countryside.I adored it.
Great breakfast, with eggs made BY order and hot drinks just leaving the bar to our request, the rest buffet.
We went there because that was the best we found to be closer to Mugaritz were we had dinner that night, but i think it's worth going there by the hotel itself and even have dinner there.
Private parking free in front of the hotel.

the hotel restaurant is located on the outskirts - literally - of the town in something that looks like a swiss chalet. the drive to the hotel is an adventure in itself as you have to drive along tiny roads in the middle of nowhere! I recommend not to drive after dark ....
The hotel has very nice and spacious rooms. very quiet. you have an excellent view on the rural country side of northern spain.
My disappointment is, that the restaurant will and can not serve any food before 20.30 hrs, the lonely and hungry traveller arriving from the south of spain after an 8 or 9 hr drive and arriving around 18.30 has to wait for 2 hrs to get food....... very Spanish, but very annoying when you want to continue the journey early next day. ... but it is all part of Spanish culture and tradition.....
once the restaurant opened, the food was of good quality and recommendable.

the general impression is that the remoteness of the place has taken its toll and the best of the place has meanwhile worn off.

Room Tip: don't book it if you intend to arrive after dark

My husband and I stayed here, unfortunately only for one night, on our way to Estepona with our two dogs. What an absolute delight. The hotel, with only 13 bedrooms, is small and cosy. The hotel looks like a Swiss chalet and is set in thousands of acres. The dogs just loved it.. Each room is individually named, and lovely. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Because the dining room was so well set out we decided to have our evening meal there.

A three course meal, with a bottle of beer, wine or cider EACH, was only 20 euros each. Incredibly good value, and a lovely meal. My husband had the crab fish cake to start, whilst I had the warm goats cheese salad. Mmmmm. We then both had the duck, which came with a rich dark sauce - lovely. For pud, we both had the home made creme caramel with home made banana ice cream - yummy.

Located just over the border in the Spanish Pyranees, it's only a few minutes drive from the motorway, and ideally situated for trips to the coast.

We loved it and will definitely stay there again.

My only complaint, the car park was quite a walk to the reception and quite a number of steps to drag the suitcase up.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor, they all have lovely balconies with great views. Also, if disabl...

We statyed at the Usategieta three nights in July but were disappointed...

What we have expected was a nice and calm "getaway" in the mountains with high standards as this hotel is rated with four stars. In earlier days they might have been worth it but not now...

The hotel is pretty much worn down and the bed for instance is one of the old ones with springs that you feel when you are laying in the bed. It is also very worn down which resulted in three nights of bad sleep for both me and my wife.

On top of that, the walls and the door into the room is so thin so you here everything outside in the corridor or in the other rooms.

Although the hotel is situated in the mountains, it is just a minute from the large motorway to France and you here the noise from it when you are outside.

The are many positives too with the hotel; the breakfast is good, the staff is very welcoming and will do the best to help you - and the restaurant is very good! We had sunday lunch there and it was very, very good - a tasting menu with five different dishes. If you don't stay at the hotel, you should visit the restaurant.

San Sebastian is situated 30 min away with car. And you deffintly need a car to stay here.. You can go by bus to the nearest village (Oiartazun), but from there it is 10-15 minutes by car. As previous reviewers has said, it is hard to find - but use the hotels homepage for drivning directions.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with large windows - otherwise you feel trapped (like we did)

Lovely hotel with great surrondings exept the toxic dump that we could see from the bathroom window. The staff was very hepful, polite, spoke English very well. The breakfast was great but would need a bit of change every now and then.
We had no problem getting there as some people might have experienced and that's even with us missing the exit that was given in directions.
There were a couple of things that we wouldn't be happy with- for instatance, there was no safety box in our room or in the reception. Also when we arrived to the hotel it had not a sign up on the gate that this is The Hotel which I found very peculiar.
The distance from the hotel to the nearest town was around 5km which meant we had to use the car to go to a restaurant (the hotel restaurant was closed the first night due to a wedding) but would be great for people that are looking for a quiet and peaceful holidays.
On the other hand the walls were not soundproof and we could hear people showering, switching the computers on and off, children crying, people walking on the corridor that wouldn't have you sleep almost at all.
Overall,we would recommend the hotel for the weekend but not for a week as we stayed.

This hotel was a great find but very hard to find! GPS co-ordinates took us to an industrial estate and there were no signs anywhere. We eventually found a very small sign but it didn't help much. But when we got there it was well worth the hassle. A very quiet location with great views from the large bedroom. Breakfast was good but the evening meal was the highlight. Excellent food, including wine was extremely reasonably priced. We would certainly visit this place again for a longer stay.

This is a precious hotel that is located in the midst of a ranch. It offers spectacular views and the natural beauty is apparent at every turn. When you head down for breakfast you are greeted by the most friendly personnel that offer you a variety of delicious breakfast options, that are all included in the price of your stay.

During your stay, I would also recommend dinning at Restaurant Zuberoa because it is simply magnificent. The staff caters to your every desire and has key timing on when to give you attention. With a glance at the menu sampling it is obvious that every detail has been executed with mastery. Even the personnel handled everything with an impeccable discretion. But what impressed me the most was that the famous chef H. Arbelaitz. He went out of his way to leave the kitchen and personally send me off without even knowing if he would see me again.
