“Charming and quiet location with splendid views on the Bermeo bay side”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

Absolutely top location for a 'casa rural' with very caring and friendly hosts with a clear environmental and biological footprint. All rooms are equally attractive, spacious, clean and quiet except for maybe the single one on the ground floor next to the breakfast area. Place is absolutely quiet. A place you really can come to rest physically and mentally, sitting on the hill just in front of the lodge.
Cooking facilities in 'cooking house' just 30 meters next to the lodge. You can get and prepare onsite almost any self-grown artisan/natural fruit and vegetables at friendly prices.
I would say the only dissatisfier I could come up with is the 3-4 kilometer uphill road through narrow lanes (but hardly any opposite traffic) and maybe the fact that the 5 friends hardly speak anything else than Spanish. My basic Spanish is sufficient but otherwise this might be a limitation to get to know more of the background and the people which for us is always a part of the joy of our trips.
Prices have gone up by 10% last year (€149 incl VAT), probably because of the popularity but is still a good deal for what is offered.

Room Tip: All rooms are equally attractive, spacious, clean and quiet except for maybe the single one on the g...

Personally, after reading all the comments, and after my experience, I don't need to add more about this place. An ideal place for those who are looking for peace and harmony. The best: the love and good deeds, tranquility and nature, the attention to every detail and freedom. Although the most interesting places in the region are relatively close, for those who wants to visit the most important places in one or two days and never have been in the Basque Country, this is not your best choice. But for those who have more days and wants to visit the country calmly, from another point of view, this is the perfect place.

Despite the narrow road with many curves leading to the b&b (but hey, what do you want when situated almost on a hill top) you get a high quality b&b with a great view on the coast and with superb hosts!
Lurdeia is sure a very good place to start discovering the Vizcaya province with it's beautiful nature.
Bilbao is not so far away and a trip to Donostia-San Sebastian is also within 1.5hr travel distance by car.
We had very comfortable beds in the clean and spacious 4-persons-apartment.
Another advantage of this b&b is that the guests can use the kitchen which is located next to the main building. We experienced that it is better to take lunch during the day somewhere along the road (we had some very good meals for little money) and to buy bread, cheese, meat, wine and ... to eat in the evening in the kitchen. Note that spanish families start their dinner very late (according to our habits) so we came in a bit earlier to avoid the "crowd".
The breakfast consisted of a daily changing variety of products which was served by the hosts in typical bask outfit. We also took a box full of their tomatoes and peppers back home because of the quality.
The hosts always asked for your plans so they could provide you with some more details and guidance. Although this was in spanish, we highly appreciated their input and really did some nice discoveries (bosque pintada, bridge of Portugalete, san juan de gaztelugatxe, some nice beaches). If we would have come back earlier to Lurdeia from our trips then we could have enjoyed reading a book when sittng on the bench in the garden with a very nice view on the coast.

Restaurant tip when in Bilbao: bistro Guggenheim (Michelin star quality at a very reasonable price) and resto Hatari (euro 11 for 3-course lunch incl wine, bread and water).
Restaurant tip when in San Sebastian: La Fabrica (come early if you do not have a reservation).

We just came back home after a 10 day visit of the Basques Countries, and we were very fortunate to have booked our last 4 nights at Lurdeia. We slept in the Eguzki (Sun) room, which was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. The bathroom is roomy and has an excellent shower.
The breakfast was great, and the food on the table delicious and very fresh. We did get a different selection every morning. Once our hosts learned that one of us is vegetarian, they went out of their way to offer alternative food to meat and also to dairy products.
The personal attention that we received during our stay was exceptional: from the selection of food, to information on where to go and what to do, what to look for and what places were or were not worth a stop. Our hosts gave us plenty of maps and information that made our visits i the area comfortable and hassle free.
The view and location are like Paradise on Earth, and it was definitely very difficult for us to leave this place, making us feel like we need to come back for more.
If you plan on visiting the Bilbao and coastal area, do consider staying at Lurdeia -- the peace that we found in this place, and the positive energy that the hosts radiate did definitely make a difference in our vacation.

Choose to stay at this B&B instead of in Bilbao when arriving in the afternoon on midsummers day Which we had forgot about). It's hidden quite good in the mountains, but the view when getting there is more than worth the effort. It's located on what seems like an organical fars, so the host was out working and came when he saw us arriving. The room were nice, but we didn't spend much time on it as we drove straight down to Bermeo. Breakfast in the morning was nice and and the hosts serve it in traditional basque clothing.

We didn't really know what we had booked once the driving directions sent us winding up a mountain. When we got out of the car we had just an absurdly epic view over Bermeo and the Basque coast. There was a brief period of uncertainty when we couldn't immediately find the host, but it was easy enough to drive up the path a little more and find some friendly farm-hands that directed us to Alberto (maybe if you stay here you should warn him what time you'll be arriving). Our room was great, the whole building beautifully rustic. Alberto sent us to a restaurant down the hill (Bengoetxe) where we ate txipirones rellenos late-night and watched football. In the morning Alberto appeared in traditional basque attire and made us breakfast, which included some awesome homemade doughnuts.

Room Tip: Get one with a window facing north (towards the coast), that's the good view

This casa rural (B&B) is in the mountains with a beautiful view of the ocean and the beachside town of Bermeo. The rooms are spacious, the breakfast spectacular, and Alberto and his brothers were quite helpful. The brothers dress in their Basque garb and serve quite a breakfast in lovely dining room with a striking view and soft, traditional music in the background. It was not all that convenient to restaurants but they offered a cooking option in the kitchen building to which they contributed fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onion. We were also able to wash/dry some clothes, also. It was accessible to both Bilbao (the Guggenheim) and Guernica (the Peace museum). The road to this B&B is quite torturous, just keep following the Lurdeia signs and you will arrive there. Quite a driving experience in itself.
