“brilliant for uk ferries....”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

saw this hotel advertised on a website stating location for ferries, and they were right.

good underground parking, although a little tight parking the jeep.

lovely reception overlooking the river and the bridge, with the bar next to it.

we were going to ask for a river view ,but overheard the man on reception tell someone they were fully booked.

we got our room,118 and it had the best view of the bridge. perfect.

we got a twin/double room and it was very well decorated , with mini bar and tv. bathroom was clean and plenty of towels.

we used the bar/restaurant and had tapas. food was good. we had a bottle of rioja which was good.

overall we would definatly use the hotel again. hope this helps

Skipping the positive issues. Read about those in other reviews.
We experienced the staff to be awful: incapable of handling other than the common basic scenarions. Some bad issues we experienced:
- On arrival we received a coupon: '2 free beer and free mojito'. 'Valid during your complete stay' the receptionist said. The bartender refused to redeem the free beer two days later. 'Valid only Friday and Saturday night'. Lie or incompetence ?
- The receptionist agreed and said we could try again next Friday (2 days after our check out).
Ignorance or impudence ?
- Maybe it's a language problem. Then the complete staff lacks english knowledge and is not suited for this job.
- On 3 of our 5 nights a kind of rock festival took place apx. 50m next to the hotel. Even through the closed windows we could hear the hard rock music. Sleeping ? No chance ! (By the way: What is the main purpose you book a hotel for ?)
- On asking the receptionist at apx 1 o'clock when the noise would stop he simply said he would not know, propably 3 o'clock or later ? He said it was an event run by the city and it was my problem.
I'd expect a) something like 'Sorry for the inconvenience, sir' and b) an attempt to solve the client's problem, eg. offering us a different room - simple as that.
- Due to the sleeplessness we became hungry. The receptionist sent us to the bar man again. The bar man said in a harsh tone, kitchen was closed. 'Don't you have anything left over ? A chunk of dry bread would do.' 'No, kitchen closed.'
Assuming the kitches really was completely empty I'd expect at least a hint on where to find restaurants which are still open or the offer to call a pizzaservice. A friendly formulation, a smile and pretending to understand the customer's pain would also have helped a bit. So I strolled into town and found a chinese restaurant where I could gather some take away food on my own.
- The hotel claims to put the customer first (magazine next to the bed: 'People come first...'). Could not experience that yet.
- Not to mention the several hair we found in the bath tub.
- Wifi is free, but I can't send emails. I can receive emails, though. So, had to send photos and greetings to my friends via my expensive mobile phone line.

In the end we could not enjoy the otherwise nice looking bar and hotel. We lost apx. 2 of our 5 days because we had to catch up sleep. We had to find out and do everything ourselves what normally were used to be assisted by the hotel staff. They don't even greet back. And of what use is a hotel if you can't sleep there ?

The staff in the cheaper hotels in eg. Barcelona had been far more competent and friendly. The stay there had been warm, quiet, comfortable and relaxing. Not so here.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the river. AND avoid nights with festivals next to the hotel.

We stayed here only one night, but thought everything was great and the value for the money couldn't be beat. Awesome view of the bridge and promenade, guy playing sax outside below, just a quick crossing on the bridge to the other side of town where there are plenty of tasty pinxtos places. It is not a luxury hotel, instead I found it clearly geared toward business travelers. But it provided everything we needed and was very clean and stylish. The gentlemen at the reception desk were very helpful. And again, such a good value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the water - the view is killer.

quiet most of the times, nice restaurant and bar/tapas...
room is clean, and workable.
the only things i didn't like were small tv (very small), and carpet was a bit stained.
otherwise bed was nice, hotel staff were friendly (as much as possible)
breakfast was great and worth the money! fresh juice and coldcuts were excellent!
nice large bathroom!
next to walk-way next to the river, very nice... on weekends there is a market just outside the hotel in the morning, niceeeeee

Room Tip: not too many floors, so i guess anyone you get would be about the same - but river side must be quit...

We arrived there on april 18th 2013, because we could not find any available room in Bilbao. What lucky we were!!!. This hotel is superb, the view from our balcony was wonderfull, the fresh air coming from the sea was a God blessing after a long trip from Alcossebre.
The bathroom and the room was very clean and confortable and at night we could rest perfectly well because everything was so quiet...Wi-fi service was free and we could use skype at no charge. The food and the "tapas" at the bar were so good.

Regards to the people at the front desk!! what a lovely staff, they gave us maps, show how to reach to that specials places nobody knows if you are not a local...Thank you once again for taking care of us.
We would recomend this hotel to everyone.

I've traveled all over the world and stayed in everything from a hostel in rural Mexico to a five star hotel in New York. This hotel is, by far, the filthiest, worst excuse for a hotel I've ever seen.

We checked in around 3pm on April 7th, 2013 and were given a room "with a nice view of the river". The room did have a view of the river and we quickly opened the windows because the room smelled bad (foul) and was about 95 degrees. The river didn't smell much better but at least we got some air moving.

The room was a wreck and filthy (see the pictures I attached). The rug was worn and dirty, the walls were heavily damaged, we found garbage in the closet and behind & underneath the bed, the so called "king" bed we booked was two short-twins pushed together (not long enough for my 6'-2" travelling partner) and they were the hardest beds we've ever tried. A canvas cot would have been more comfortable.

The bathroom, in contrast, was very nicely remodeled and appeared mostly clean. However, it was clear that the odor was coming from the bathroom.

After a short time (of taking pictures) we complained to the front desk and were promptly told "the hotel is fully booked, we have no other rooms". We then refused the room, but the Hotel staff suddenly came down with a case of "No Hablo Inglés" and insisted on charging the full fee for one night's stay despite the room being totally unsatisfactory. My employer was stuck with a 65 Euro charge.

Rooms and bathrooms were clean, and while not overly spacious, were certainly adequate. Location is adjacent to the river with a scenic view of the bridge and nice walkway just outside the door and along the river. Convenient location to many shops and not far from attractions in nearby Bilbao. Wi-fi service was free and reliable so it was easy to communicate internationally at no charge. The food service was good. Staff communicated well in English and were all very kind and helpful. Would recommend to others traveling in the area.
