The Gran Hotel Puente Colgante is primarily a business hotel and it feels like it, but it is clean and efficient (we had no trouble with surly staff as mentioned in other reviews), the corner room we had was spacious with great views over the river, bridge and small plaza at the side of the hotel. The decor was perhaps a little tired, but bathroom was of a good size and well appointed, the AC, safe, mini bar, etc, were all there and in good working order. The bed was comfortable and there were no noise issues. There is also on-site parking, though it is not free (16 euros per day).
The location in Portugalete, outside the city centre of Bilbao suited us well as we had to meet friends in Getxo, just over the bridge (a nice area to check out if you stay here - nice waterfront promenade and some good pinxo bars), but if you were just in town to see the Guggenheim, it might be better to stay a bit closer to it. That said, it was pretty easy trip on the Metro to get to the centre, and the area the hotel is in is quiet, attractive and less 'touristy' than the centre. Arriving by car was fairly easy too as it's not far off the freeway. Also, the Puente Colgante itself with its teleferic car ferry is a nice way to get to dinner.More
