Owner description: VINSEUM (firstly known as Museu de Vilafranca) was founded in 1934 with the aim of bringing together different collections related to the Penedes region. In this connection, archaeology has played a significant role due to the findings that have been made in the county. Further historical collections resulting from private donations were also incorporated such as artworks, which are the testimony of the economic vitality of the country, natural history collections, wine and ceramics; all of which are fruits of the curiosity of the public. Among these collections – it could not be otherwise - there were many objects related to the cultivation of vines and winemaking, which has been one of the key activities in the Penedes region for many years. The permanent exhibition at the VINSEUM is dedicated to the vineyard and wine, and the close connection these have with the Penedes region and Catalonia. The journey starts on the third floor of the Royal Palace and ends with a cava or wine tasting in the tavern of the museum.. VINSEUM will take you on a journey through the stories of wine, to rediscover the footprints it has left us, from its origins to the present time, from the land where the vine stems to the sensorial explosion of wine tasting. Come and experience!

Mostly a collection of pottery and video screens. Not a lot of wine-making information.

Cost $4 Euro(senior rate) but you get a free glass of wine included.

A ross from Cathedral of Santa Maria, around the corner from the Market.

“Marvelous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

Wasn't quite sure what to expect as from the outside it looks rather like a bar with a gift shop attached! Upon entering we asked the young lady what exactly "this" was, after her explanation we decided to give it a whirl. It's only7 euros for standard admission, this includes use of headphones and preloaded iPod and a glass of wine at the end of your visit. The tour starts on the 3rd floor and works its way down to the groundfloor and wine taste. The museum takes you through the history and methods of wine making, concentrating on examples from the Penedes area. On each floor there are language specific video presentations as well as hundreds of exhibits. - We listened to all of the *starred* exhibits plus around 30% of the others- as each also has a short written explanation. We entered at 12.30, had only done 2 floors by 2pm when they close for lunch ! So after a lovely lunch at Miquel Soria ( 50 metres on same side) we returned after 4pm to resume our visit. In all we spent 3 hours in the museum, followed by our glass of wine. The bar itself has lots of wines to choose from plus a good small snack selection- seems very popular with the locals as you can use the bar and covered courtyard for "free".
The 2 girls at the entrance desk are very helpful
There is a lift to all floors, so suitable for disabled visitors
