“Nothing more then ok room”
Reviewed April 2, 2012 via mobile

The parador is in the middle of nowhere. The auchostic is terrible . Every door that is closed you can hear it. The walls are very thin. The food is mediocare and there is nothing to do around the hotel. It might be ok for one night stay.

Fabulous Parador in a beautifully scenic spot, near VIC but further than we originally thought and totally different scenery, an amazing location with amazing views over the Pantana de Sau, the view changes especially in winter from morning, noon to evening.

Service in the hotel was excellent, very attentive staff all of our requirements previously requested were met. Double bed instead of twin ( in spain I find you always need to request a bouble deb otherwise they give you two singles!) Thoughtful and helpful given we were travelling with a young child. The room was spacious and very comfortable, room service dining was good but the dishes were a little bland for our taste, we both had promising fish dishes and both very dissappointing.

Breakfast was great and would suit all tastebuds, great variety of hot and cold, diet, celiac requirements, everything you could ever want for breaky!

Superb location with astonishing views and great service. A bit outside the normal Spanish life, but a car brings you easily to other aeras.

The Parador de Vic-Sau enjoys a special location, overlooking a beautiful reservoir, framed by mountains.

We too found the service inconsistent - not particularly welcoming and somewhat inattentive at dinner. But otherwise we enjoyed our stop at the parador. Vic-Sau is not historic as are many other paradors and the lobby is less then inspiring - but then how much time does one spend in a lobby. Rooms on the east (reservoir) side of the building are much preferred due to the spectacular views, including for us a wonderful sunrise. Many rooms have nice large balconies. The rooms themselves are large, clean and well appointed.

The food at dinner was quite good, although as mentioned the service not so attentive. I especially enjoyed the Butifarra with white kidney beans - a local grilled sausage dish. Another excellent dining option is the Restaurant Fussimanya a few kilometres down the road. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch there and cannot say enough about the food and the experience (see our review).

As breakfast did not appear to be as extensive as most other paradors we skipped it and simply enjoyed a coffee on the terrace, overlooking the reservoir.

There is a nice large pool, beautifully situated below the parador.

All in all Vic-Sau is a nice quiet hotel, with great vistas and good food. In-spite of the spotty service we were very glad we included Parador de Vic-Sau on our itinerary.

Room Tip: A superior room (an additional 25 euros) with balcony overlooking the reservoir is recommended.

About 14 Km up a country road to nowhere in particular, you'll find the Parador de Vic-Sau in a spectacular alpine setting looking down onto a gorgeous green-blue reservoir. One morning before breakfast we walked a little way down the hill away from the hotel, through a deep sun-filled mist. Occasional glimpses of the water below could be seen when the curtain parted, but the abiding memory will be of the gentle and constant tinkle of cow-bells from somewhere in the mist. An hour later the fog had burned away and we were in warm sunshine once again.
Of the three Paradores we visited on this trip to Catalonia the one at Vic-Sau is the most modern, and we had a beautifully appointed bedroom to the rear of the building. The receptionist seemed almost apologetic that she couldn't give us a balcony, but as we were getting exactly what I had booked we had no reason to expect otherwise. The restaurant and menu were of a high standard that we came to expect at these hotels. If I was picky, though, I'd say Vic-Sau had a little more show and a little less substance than the others we ate in. Perhaps I'm being unkind, there, and caught them at a busy time. The pool was superb, though, and we made good use of it. They even have changing rooms in a small house down below the hotel, in the garden where it's located.
In all three Paradores there was a fastidious attention to detail when it came to cleaning the room and making the beds. So I was quite amazed to read a prior review of this hotel where someone complained of bed-bugs. It's a good idea to be generous with the mozzie repellent, I find, before sitting outside at cocktail hour, in order not to wake up with bites.
In our case a two night stay was sufficient to bask in the alpine sunshine and to take a couple of short walks amidst the stunning scenery. It reminded me of a the canyons of Utah only on a smaller scale and with abundent greenery. I'd recommend the Parador de Vic-Sau if you are touring Catalonia and fancy something just a little unusual and sensationally different.

Stayed here a few times now. The rooms are very confortable and well appointed. The superior rooms overlook the lake/reservoir so have the best views (and some have balconys). This year we were on motorcycles and this is a great place to stay as its the gateway to some of the best motorcycling roads in Spain... maybe even Europe. Everything was as expected, even the slightly frostie reception in the restaurant :-)

Room Tip: If you want a great view - make sure you book a superior room... not normally available as part of t...

We chose this mountain resort for a trek up to a monastery. The service was erratic; some helpful and others too busy chatting.
Firstly, we got the wrong information re walking times; then there was no warning about the track being overgrown; no walking sticks were suggested or offered.

The room was humdrum; the showers curtains were cheap and fell apart. The decor was like a mediocre business hotel rather than a resort;

Having read earlier reviews, we did not opt for dinner at the restaurant; Instead, eat at Fussimanya - a gem of a place minutes from the resort; after-dinner drink service was sloppy.

This place needs a sharp new manager!!!
