I was in town visiting friends over the summer. A couple of my friends suggested we visit Kronberg in Taunus. Specifically, to visit this former castle, now hotel and have lunch. It was a relatively short drive north of the city and soon enough we were in the sleep small town. When we arrived the restaurant wasn’t open yet so we decided to sit and chat over coffee at the terrace. Lunch was also served in an open air area of the restaurant overlooking the hotel grounds. It was lovely! We were definitely feeling the “ladies who lunch” vibe after all, apart from our group there was only another table wherein a vacationing family diner and later on a couple of business men in suits sat down for what was clearly an upscale business lunch.

For the meal, we took advantage of their prix fixe lunch offer. It was 3 courses and a glass of wine for €45. After the amuse bouche, my first course was a gazpacho that was perfect for the summer. Next came a chanterelle and apricot risotto that was excellent! Fantastic combination! Dessert was also delicious and beautifully plated. Over all we found the meal to be of great value for the price and we enjoyed the leisurely lunch. After our meal we took some time strolling through the property and taking photos. We didn’t get to see the rooms but it seems a stay here isn’t overly expensive either. Great for a special occasion or romantic

Since this is my favorite hotel in Germany, I booked a room to celebrate Valentine’s Day and decided to have dinner on sight. It was simply heavenly, thanks to their new chef! Of course implacable service as always, but this new chef adds a new demension to their elegant restaurant.

Let me be clear, staying here is not an inexpensive weekend getaway. Yet, in every way, the hotel, staff and restaurant live up to the price and deliver a first rate experience and cater to your every need. Located in a quiet Taunus park with beautiful views, scenic walks, a (smoky) piano bar and lounge with a fireplace, this first class hotel is a romantic place for a special occasion or family reunion.
The restaurant is superior with a very good vegetarian menu and fully stocked breakfast buffet. The Schloss itself is from the late nineteenth century and is surrounded by a golf course. In season, the scenic walks which crisscross the course itself might be somewhat less than peaceful depending on how accurate the golfers are that day. By contrast, in the off-season, the only dangers are the muddy paths.
If you are looking for somewhere to relax and not worry (except perhaps about your bill) this is an excellent place and highly recommended.
Note that weekends seem to have private parties, seminars and large family reunions and, I suspect, in summer weddings but these are more or less isolated and don't interfere with guests.

We had a nice room on the 4th floor but once you got off the small elevator, you had to climb a flight of stairs. I HAD to have a porter carry up and down my suitcases. Meaning more tips.
The views from the room were magnificent.
Room service was mediocre.

We met with friends for a classical British afternoon tea. It was exactly as you would expect it: a pianist was playing classical music, A glass of champagne was served, there was a variety of sweets, scones and sandwiches were served... we felt like in a Rosamunde Pilger movie. At the end, a show-around was given in this truly impressive house. The experience comes with a price, we paid roughly €60 per person, which is not nothing, however, it was worth the experience.
