Wonderful hotel, average location

Review of Hotel Poseidon
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 25, 2016via mobile
Hotel Poseidon is wonderful, with huge rooms and a wonderful restaurant. The food is great and the staff is very friendly. The downside is that its location, not close to the train station or any major cultural site or beach, but if you like to travel, you won't mind that much. Take the circumvesuviana train to visit Pompeii and the Vesuvius and Sorrento is an hour away by train.

The staff at this hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. We had to change rooms as there was a problem with the bath and they gave us a bottle of Prosecco and a room upgrade to compensate us for the trouble. The hotel itself was pretty empty as the town was not a highly touristic venue ;however it was clean and the rooms were spacious and the breakfast adequate.

This hotel is large and is well facilitated.
The rooms are if a good size. Ours didn't have a view but as we only wanted it for a stop off place to sleep while we went sightseeing all day, it didn't bother us. There is a lovely view from the breakfast/restaurant area upstairs. I would not recommend the restaurant at all though I am afraid. Unless you are looking for a laugh and don't mind your order being wrong etc. It was somewhat reminiscent of an episode of Faulty Towers. This really is not an exaggeration. They were very pleasant and not rude at all but just had no clue what they were doing. I think it is a father and son duo. Food was acceptable but the experience wasn't one is want to repeat.
Breakfast was acceptable also but no more than that. Continental spread with horrendous coffee.
It's a bit of a trek from the train station downhill (very steep, esp when walking back up). Not too far but about 10 minutes or so. With the heat, hills and luggage it can seem a bit much. Avoiding the dog poo was an impossible challenge too.
It's a good place to stay as a base if you are going to see the sights. Herculaneum and Pompeii are within a 10minute train journey. Really easy and close. There are also other archeological areas close too.
The decor etc is very quirky which makes for an interesting look around.
All in all, worth the money and a pleasant enough stay.
    No complaints.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights.
Pros: Amazingly comfy emperor-sized bed, good free breakfast, lovely theme and decoration, view from restaurant is lovely, right next to train station with easy access to pompeii, naples and sorrento, air conditioned room.

Cons: Lack of attention to detail eg. x3 lights out in room, only one pillow per person, fan in bathroom did not work etc... Area of Torre Del Grecco is not great, didnt find staff all that welcoming upon check in or check out, rooms not soundproof - could hear children crying from hallway, had no view - just a wall from the window.

Would maybe consider staying again, however I think we would stay in the nearby Sorrento if visiting Italy a second time.

Room tip: Guess we maybe should have asked for a room with a view, as ours had non.

Spacious and clean rooms. Weird architecture of the building. Not very warm and cosy. Very cold feeling. The staff are friendly and helpful. Wifi is kinda strange. Sometimes it's very fast and then after a while it's slow again. What's most disappointing is breakfast. You don't get really much choice. So my conclusion : average hotel.

We stayed here for the first four days of our honeymoon. We mainly used it as a base for our trips out to Hercalaneum and Pompeii. We found that using the metro by ourselves was the best way to get around price wise. If you buy a combo ticket you can get into Hercalaneum, Pompeii and three other archeological sites for €22 euros which is a saving even if you only visit two. The room was really clean, had an amazing sized bathroom and really comfortable memory foam pillows on the bed. We had upgraded to a superior room and were half board. There is a nice view of the harbour from the restaurant and it's not a long walk to get there for a nice stroll and to watch the sunset. Also a great gelato around the corner from the hotel. You get a great view of Mount Vesuvius from the harbour walk too.
