This hotel was a leap in the dark but thank goodness we landed on our feet. The reception bar area is enormous but a little soulless, furniture is placed stylishly around the area but it would benefit from the placement of comfortable easy chairs. The area in common with all other areas of the hotel was absolutely immaculately clean the bar was well stocked and the young lady behind the bar makes an above average cup of coffee. The reception staff were kind enough to speak to us in English, were responsive to our needs and helpful with suggestions for restaurants and in booking travel.
The lifts were situated in the middle of the lobby and smelt clean and fresh, our first floor room was large, squeaky clean and was serviced daily, it could have been improved by providing an easy chair and tea and coffee facilities but in every other respect it was stupendous value for the price. Due to a recent accident I have limited mobility at present and my sister had communicated this to the hotel when booking, our room was clearly set up to take account of that with a stool in the shower, a call button in case of emergency and in its proximity to the lifts. A 5 star service indeed. I must mention that the beds were very comfortable, the bed linen clean and crisp and the pillows have seduced us away from feather pillows because they were so comfortable.
The top floor restaurant is again an enormous space, clearly set up for conferences or large private functions but with a more intimate bar area with couches and a series of tables for two before the windows to take advantage of the view across the bay, the near view is a bit more mundane but look across the bay to see Capri. The food varied from good to medium good to excellent, but was never less than good and was served with style and panache by a team of smiling serving staff, several of whom spoke English also with style and panache. My sister and I were fascinated to watch while a small staff served and cleared a 3 course meal with coffee to upwards of 150 conference delegates with an absolute minimum of fuss and in a calm and dignified atmosphere all the while keeping 4 tables for two serviced. I have to take my hat off to them they made it look easy. Smiling Dario was a sweetheart, the young bearded waiter was informative and enthusiastic about both the area and its produce and history, the young ladies were charming and helpful and the head waiter was dignified and totally in control of the operation. We loved it, it was like stepping back to a time when service was a more highly prized commodity. I wish we had asked the name of the pink bubbly wine because we enjoyed it so much.
The hotel is principally a conference facility but don't let this put you off it is a very good base from which to explore the area.
