“Perfect location & accommodation for family get togethers”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We recently got married in Penrith and as our family live all around the world, we needed a place for us all to stay together. The Ginney Country Guest House & Holiday Cottages ticked all our boxes - stunning location, fabulous rooms, cleanliness, homely feeling, complete value for money, wonderful hosts all helped to make our stay as a family completely perfect. The great Cumbrian breakfast set us up for the days and our room for our first night as Mr & Mrs was wonderful. Thank you for the special effort you went to make our room so lovely. Nothing was too much trouble and it made our family wedding even more perfect! Linda and Philip, thank you both so much and we will all see you again soon!

Room Tip: All rooms were totally perfect in every way and the self catering cottage was the best equipped we h...

Our third visit. Perfectly positioned for anyone needing to stop off to or from Scotland, you'll never be disappointed at the Ginney Guest House. Friendly welcome from Linda, superb attention to detail in the bedrooms, nice quiet location yet so close to the motorway (not that you'd notice),great breakfast - try the soft creamy muesli with fruit topping,a house speciality, and a good choice of eating places in the evening- we went to the Boot and Shoe at Greystoke, great atmosphere, excellent food, pleasant service and a nice 3 mile run through lovely Cumbrian countryside.
The Ginney is truly a gem.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room - some downstairs rooms have creaky floorboards above.

I have to agree that this G/H is lovely, but as a disabled traveller I expect a facility which claims to be accessible to be just that.

The shower had a step that was about 5 inches high to get in to it, no good for someone who cannot raise either foot much above ankle height, and there were NO GRABRAILS in or around the shower. The toilet was also not high enough for me to get off of without my husband there to pull me up, and the handrail round the loo was the 'fireguard' sort, not the solid drop down rails normally seen in commercial premises.

Having said all that Linda & Philip were food enough to bring breakfast to the room for us, but not being able to have a refreshing shower on one of the hottest days of the year really did spoil my stay.

Luckily we were only there for one night, and I'm afraid to say we won't be back. I did mention the problems to Linda but she advised that they only claim to cater for mild disablities, so if your only disability is a head cold then you should be ok.

Sorry to have been so negative but a spend of about £500 on the bathroom to put it a ramp to the shower, some grabrails, and a toilet seat riser with the corrrect drop down rails would have made the stay perfect.

Room Tip: If you are disabled question everything to make sure you are getting what you expect

We are sorry The Ginney did not meet your requirements. We do not claim or state that we are accessible to all disabilities, however as we cannot stop anybody booking we always request customers with any disabilities to telephone prior to booking. This is so we can explain the difficulties arising from the physical footprint of the property, making it only possible to cater for very basic disabilities. We then leave the decision to the discretion of the customer, which in this case we did explain in detail by phone, which was again referred to and acknowledged by your husband upon arrival. Our glowing reviews are rewarding and humbling and we are saddened that you chose to ignore our initial advice and write this unjustified review.

We have just booked our latest stop over at The Ginney. We have stayed there several times on our way to Scotland & would highly recommend it. The rooms are clean, spacious & beautifully decorated. Linda is a charming host and breakfast is varied and very good. The local pub, the Stoneybeck is close and serves good food.

A beautifully restored B & B. Linda was absolutely delightful and helpful. The breakfast was a wonderful English "the works." They recommended a great pub in Greystroke for dinner--which we visited twice because my husband left his VISA card there. :) Highly recommend The Ginney!!
