We were referred to the hotel by a Salvadoran who currently lives in the US. The staff accommodating and friendly. They don't speak English but understand Spanglish and are very patient. My Spanish improved greatly by the end of the week.
The food at the restaurant was good, particularly the seafood. The seafood skewers and the calamari ceviche were two of my favorite dishes. Suprema was my beer of choice;light, refreshing and smooth. Very enjoyable while lying in the beach hammocks.
We stayed in two different rooms during our week there. The rooms were quality rooms by third world standards; not all of them had hot water, the towels and linens are clean, they did provide soap and shampoo and like most hotels located on the beach (including Florida) there is a damp smell to the rooms. That being said, the tranquility of the place makes you not have a care in the world. The hammocks on the beach, the small infinity pool, the waterfall area, and the amazing view from the restaurants and if you are lucky enough to book in advance, your hotel room/balcony. My husband surfed world class waves everyday. I took surfing photos and drank coconut water "aqua di coco" almost every day. Vendors sell their necklaces, bracelets, and wind chimes up and down the beach. The "town" area is a brief walk down the road. There are several shops, restaurants and bars along the way to the beach where you will see amazing sunsets. You can also catch a sunrise on the beach in front of Tekuani Kal. It's great! You look left to watch it rise and right to watch it set. Pay the money, get a balcony room on the beach.
We hired a driver so my husband could go to different surf breaks, we could see the volcanoes, see the lake area and go to and from the airport. Our driver's name was Mateo and the hotel took care of the travel arrangements for us. He charges VERY fair prices and is very accommodating. Make sure you know some Spanish! It was suggested by our friend we do this for convenience, cost, and safety reasons ( I was never alone on the beach while my husband surfed).
All in all we had a memorable vacation.

Room Tip: Ocean View rooms, top floor. The room smelled a bit better, the balcony was nice to have when the hotel was at full capacity. We stayed in the furthesest one West to avoid the waterfall sound.

This Hotel has everything!! Great staff, amazing pool, breath taking views & delicious FREE breakfast!!! The location is perfect!! Near food, bars & on the beach. What it lacks is in it's rooms. The rooms have carpet that smells like mildew. It made sleeping a bit difficult. Most beachside hotels have tile floors. Unfortunately they went with carpet and it stinks. Also, El Salvador had just had a heavy storm and may have also contributed to the smell. It wasn't just our room. The shower was a bit uncomfortable and may not have been very sanitary. It is a small concrete slab with ocean rocks.

The view from the room balcony & the hammocks on the beach were amazing. We always felt very secure. They have 24 Hr security. Truly a great place. I just hope they get rid of the stinky carpet soon!!

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are your best choice!

After debating if a trip to El Salvador would be a safe thing to do we decided to give it a shot. This hotel was referred to by a friend and man she was right. It sits beautifully located, right on the beach, was fantastic views. The hotel itself has 6 or 7 rooms, some of them are newly remodeled and the other will be soon.
We stayed in one of the new rooms. It had two nice beds, I would say queen size probably, a satellite tv, and a seating area. The bathroom was very nice, with a big tub. We had a little balcony as well. Oh, and an AC, which was working great. The room was very nicely decorated, and clean.
The hotel pool was very nice and clean as well. It overlooks the ocean and is the nicest pool we have seen around there. The also have a bar and restaurant, and the food was delicious.
You can walk to other bars and restaurants just down the road, all within 5 minutes of walking. for surfing it's amazing, great waves and almost no one in the water. Or if you want to just watch the action, just chill in one of the hammocks they got there, and have one beer after the other.

Bottom line: If you are looking for a 5 star vacation, with W hotel quality rooms then go to elsewhere, but if you are looking for something different, interesting, fun, and adventurous, then go to El Salvador and stay at the Tekuani Kal.

Room Tip: Ask for the "suites".

My wife and I spent 5 days here to simply get away from it all, and enjoyed the spectacular setting, the service and the friendliness of the staff, the food and lounging on the beach or at the pool. During the week, we were the only guests and had the run of the place.

The drawbacks mentioned by other reviewers are all true, but I would consider them minor in comparison to the overall experience. Even though the meals might be a tad more expensive than elsewhere in Tunco, the view and service do make up for it.

The wifi was no longer working, when we were there, which only helped in putting a bit of distance between us and the "real world".

You should go ... the bus ride from San Salvador takes only about an hour and costs 1 US$ or a bit more, if you have to change buses in La Libertad.
