Me and my wife stayed at the Philea resort for 2 nights on the last days of 2013. Location was good and convenient for us as we drove up to the resort from Johor Bahru as it was right next to the Ayer Keroh Plaza Toll. The cabin room we stayed in was fantastic and really big, the biggest i've stayed ever, the bathroom with had both a bathtub and a rain shower was 1/3 of the room, the design of the cabin was certainly one of the most unique the whole room was made out of logs and all the lights were ambient lights giving it a warm cozy feeling it's just one fireplace short of looking exactly like those cabins you see in the movies. I've read reviews saying that the walk from the lobby to the rooms were a tad bit far but, for the both of us it was really just a short stroll and we were staying in the deepest end of the resort so we had to walk the furthest to get to our room, if anything the walk adds to the feel of serenity the resort is trying to achieve. The pool was a standard affair a rectangular body of water, the big draw is the man made waterfall next to it, it's just too bad you can bath under it, probably for safety concerns but if they could find a way to make it happen it would be a great selling point for the resort. And that's all there is to the resort great room and a man made waterfall, there was nothing else to the place. If you're just there to check in and hibernate in the room occasionally going out to enjoy the pool this place would be great and relaxing but if you want to go out and explore Malacca from the resort it's about a half an hour drive into the heart of the city where great food is found if not your stuck with the hotel's food which me and my wife did not taste so I can't really comment, wifi is also and issue as it was hard to connect to it and us staying so deep in the resort had a near non existing signal strength. TV channels were on the sparse side with only 16 channels if i remember correctly and half of them were local Malaysian broadcasting with only one movie channel. If the price of the rooms were to be about 20 to 25% cheaper this would be a more highly recommended place to stay.
