“Great quiet, restful stay but probably not worth the price of admission”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

Me and my wife stayed at the Philea resort for 2 nights on the last days of 2013. Location was good and convenient for us as we drove up to the resort from Johor Bahru as it was right next to the Ayer Keroh Plaza Toll. The cabin room we stayed in was fantastic and really big, the biggest i've stayed ever, the bathroom with had both a bathtub and a rain shower was 1/3 of the room, the design of the cabin was certainly one of the most unique the whole room was made out of logs and all the lights were ambient lights giving it a warm cozy feeling it's just one fireplace short of looking exactly like those cabins you see in the movies. I've read reviews saying that the walk from the lobby to the rooms were a tad bit far but, for the both of us it was really just a short stroll and we were staying in the deepest end of the resort so we had to walk the furthest to get to our room, if anything the walk adds to the feel of serenity the resort is trying to achieve. The pool was a standard affair a rectangular body of water, the big draw is the man made waterfall next to it, it's just too bad you can bath under it, probably for safety concerns but if they could find a way to make it happen it would be a great selling point for the resort. And that's all there is to the resort great room and a man made waterfall, there was nothing else to the place. If you're just there to check in and hibernate in the room occasionally going out to enjoy the pool this place would be great and relaxing but if you want to go out and explore Malacca from the resort it's about a half an hour drive into the heart of the city where great food is found if not your stuck with the hotel's food which me and my wife did not taste so I can't really comment, wifi is also and issue as it was hard to connect to it and us staying so deep in the resort had a near non existing signal strength. TV channels were on the sparse side with only 16 channels if i remember correctly and half of them were local Malaysian broadcasting with only one movie channel. If the price of the rooms were to be about 20 to 25% cheaper this would be a more highly recommended place to stay.

Room Tip: Request for a room near the pool its in the middle of the resort so your walk to the front desk or c...

I went for a short getaway to this resort for my wedding anniversary celebration. Requested for wifi in room as i might need to respond to business emails and i also indicated that i was a business traveller. Check in, room quality and furnishing was impressive, The aircon remote was faulty but it was changed in a jiffy. What annoyed me was the Wifi in room. Non existent. Had to leave the room to send email. At poolside, the connectivity was intermittent. The only stable connection was at the reception/lobby. I called reception and was told that someone will come but none came. Then when i called again and they admitted that the are technical problem with wifi. I think its actually because there is no router in my room but nobody told me so. I ask the housekeeping guy where is the location and he showed me under the lamp table. I told him there is none there.so it confirmed my suspicion. But my concern is that why the correct info was not conveyed and why as a business traveller i was check into a room without wifi. I need to be able to communicate but its so inconvenient to have to go out of room to do it. So i guess if u are here for leisure, it is ok but its not for business traveller because of wifi issues.

The resort covers a wide area. Buggy is necessary especially for checking in and out though walking is possible, it may not be to everyone's liking. During rainy season, one is sure to get inconveniently wet. Otherwise, it is a place to spend time when you have lots of time to waste and not on a schedule. Otherwise, you spend much of your time trying to wait for a buggy or walking to your destination.

I stayed in the Philea Suite for a night over the weekend. Was expecting the location to be quite secluded, but it was right next to the Ayer Keroh Plaza Toll which doesn't make it very exclusive. The suite was amazing and really spacious. The little pathway to the entrance made me feel like I was entering my own little cabin in the woods. The bathroom was almost as big as the room itself. Great amenities as well. I could smell the pine wood that the suite was made of and it was really soothing. Slept like a baby that night.

And that's about it.

The rest of the resort didn't quite match up to the room itself. Breakfast was a letdown. Very standard fare and juice was served in plastic cups. I'd expect a resort with their rates to at least serve juice in glasses. Also, the entire restaurant looked really old and the tables were those huge banquet types that sit up to 10 people. There were also flies buzzing all around us while we ate.

The pool was also quite tiny for a resort of that size, and was really noisy with many families and kids packed into the tiny pool. I didn't feel like I could relax by the pool.

Nonetheless, I did enjoy my stay there although it was quite pricey for what it's worth.

Stayed for two nights on a family trip to Malacca. Hotel very easy to find, and a very easy drive into central Malacca.
Liked the concept of the log rooms, but was actually quite dark, and could hear rather too clearly noise from the neighbouring room. We had requested interconnecting rooms for our family but were told not available. Hotel did guarantee rooms next to each other though. But on arrival the rooms were in the same block of 4, but on different floors! And apparently no possibility to change.
Pool area is good but not enough loungers for the size of the hotel. And we had to wait 40 mins for drinks to be brought poolside, despite repeated reminders.
Breakfast buffet was average.
Staff were friendly, and did try to help out - perhaps things will pick up as they get more experienced
Overall, not a terrible experience, but could be better. Would stay here again, but only if I could get a heavily discounted rate

Claimed as a 5 star hotel. Just on the left side after entering Ayer Keroh Tol. Just before Butterfly Park.
Grand Reception Hall. Grand Ballroom with water features.
Room made of Log wood. Yes Log. Piece by piece. Its exquisite. Its very nice to walk even if you have buggies to transfer you at anytime. Its surrounding Forest like.
In the centre of the resort a big pool with a man made waterfall to entertain you. Sound of water is very nice. Swimming pool has a warm water so you can swim at anytime.
Kids Pool. Kids Room. Game Room. Stimboat Restaurant. SPA are all there.

The CONS....
1. Melaka is hot and not a windy place. Its not the hotel's fault though but you shall feel it.
2. Room Service need a big improvement. Called for an Ice Bucket (its cost RM2!) But never arrives. Maybe the staff is busy etc but its 5 star right and me paying?
3. Karaoke is so expensive RM300 for 2 hours.
4. Stimboat also shall cost you RM65++ per adult.
5. Warm water pool does not mixed well with the hot weather. It maybe nice during the early morning but when the sun really shinew it should have that cool back.
6. No convenient store in sight for water or snacks. But then Petronas is simply 250m away with abundant much cheaper goods.
7. Access to pool is very limited to majority cabins.

Nevertheless this is 1 hotel in Melaka you should try at least ones and try to make it on weekdays so that the pool is yours to swim forever.

We stayed 3D2N on Dec 2013. We booked 2 type of room, normal room and Philea Suite. The total price (including 16% tax) for normal room is RM1090 and RM1700 for suite. We choose this resort because if it's bamboo design and architectural. The check in is fast. Staffs are friendly and always smile sweetly to guest. The suite room is very big, decoration is awesome, beautiful and modern. Even the washroom facilities are amazing too. There are swimming pool, kids game room, bar, 2 restaurant, fitness centre and spa etc. The price of food is a little bit higher but it is acceptable due to its 5 star resort. We really love to have a short stay here. Recommend to anyone who love "green environment" because this resort had been awarded the best Green Hotel Award during 2010-2011.
