“Very Nice Place- just a few tips...”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

Philea is a lovely spot, and our 2 nights here were quite relaxing. Just a few points...
1. Book the steam boat hot pot for dinner! We loved this!
2. The "gym" is not a facility worth mentioning, or visiting. Skip it.
3. Go early or late to breakfast. Otherwise, it's quite crowded.
4. The buildings that have 4 rooms have very thin walls. Pay a little extra and get a single chalet so you don't hear your neighbour's TV.
5. Look for GroupOn deals!

Room Tip: Rooms in clusters of 4 have very thin walls!! You can hear a lot (and also be heard).

The resort has beautiful landscaping. The rooms are made of natural wood and surrounded by nature. Waking up the the lush greeneries is priceless. The freshness of the air makes us forget that just outside the resort is the busy Ayer Keroh toll booths. As this environment is truly natural leaving anything sweet lying open will attract ants in no time.

The front desk service is good and fast. The buggy service is prompt and friendly. Unlike one of the other reviewers, we did receive the customary complimentary drink.

Just next to the resort is the butterfly park which one could visit. You will need to travel a bit if you with to enter Malacca city.

The problem with the resort is the cleanliness/housekeeping. When I first checked-in to the room, I had wanted to relax outside on the balcony, but was disappointed to see that the bench has food crumbs on it. The housekeeping staff should have ensured that all is cleaned before the next guest arrives. The corners of the room are not properly swept, leaving visible dirt and dust. I could also see cob webs in the bathroom.

The worst sight was the breakfast spread. The breakfast spread has flies all over it. The are flies of all sizes sitting on the fruits, and when we pointed that out to the waiters/waitresses/attendants, they just shrugged ignorantly. I understand that the resort, being surrounded by thick vegetation, would have many insects around, but many of those do not belong on top of food/fruits.

Room Tip: Rooms are built of wood. Choose the upper floor if you do not like to hear guests living above you w...

We stayed for 3 days 2 nights for my wife's employer family day. Overall, we had an excellent time at the place. It was our first visit and I am sure it will not be the last. As mentioned in the comments, the landscaping is excellent and the earthy feel of the hotel is refreshing :) it is an excellent place to escape the buzz of city life and chill. All the staff that we encountered were helpful and excellent in their service. If there was anything we needed in the room, we just had to press 0 on the phone and speak to the operator. That was it. No numbers for front desk, etc. One simple number. Food and beverage was good, as we followed the food sessions as arranged for the event. The rooms are very comfortable, esp the bathroom.

A few things to note

1. The chalets are made out of wood, so if you stay in the Pavillion ( like us ) and stay on the ground floor, the footsteps of those staying above you ( if there are any ) can be heard. Some of the reviewers may have written about this.

2. Travelling to the accomodations is done by hotel golf buggys. When you check in and check out, do be patient while waiting for your buggy to arrive as they might be busy. Other than that, you might want to walk instead of calling for a buggy, if time / weather permits. The size of the resort area is not that large and you can actually walk around the entire place in less than 30 minutes.

3. I would recommend this resort especially if you prefer to stay in the resort and go to the nearby attractions ( Melaka Zoo, Mini Malaysia, MITC, et al ) as it is quite near the Ayer Keroh toll plaza.

Room Tip: Specify what kind of room that you prefer, especially if you like sleeping listening to the sound of...

We stayed at philea for a company team building event. The hotel was beautiful, made mostly out of wood. Landscaping was gorgeous too.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We stayed on the ground floor. My only complain would be that since the chalet rooms were made out of wood, you could hear the footsteps of the patriots staying at the top floor. Me and my roommate had no issues as we were both too tired after a day full of activities and footsteps did not bother us too much, however some of my other friends and colleagues did not sleep well.

My only complaint for the rooms would be that it was very very dim, and not enough lighting. I guess the resort was trying to conserve energy as it is an environmental friendly resort, but the lighting in the room was just horrendous. Also, I had requested for an extra blanket, and the resort wanted to charge me RM40 for an extra blanket, which I thought was ridiculous. This is the first resort / hotel which I have stayed in, which charges people for extra blankets.

Food served during buffet breakfast and lunch was quite all right. Nothing spectacular, just ok but not bad either. However, there were some fly issues. It was bothersome but not really disturbing to us.

It would have been good if we were given more time as we did not have time to explore the resort. But overall, it was a beautiful resort. No complains from me. It was a good stay.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, I would suggest getting a room on the top floor to avoid hearing footste...

No welcome drink, no cold towel, no fruit basket though they were stated on my confirmation letter handed over to reception during check-in!

After 2 nights in KL, we drove and arrived at 2.30pm for another 2 nights stay.

The resort is set in lush greenery with log cabins dotting the well maintained grounds.

Wake up to the sounds of birds chirping,
waterfall gushing and insects calling.

Catch a squirrel scurrying on the trees/rooftops while walking to the breakfast area and don't forget to feed the fish as the spectacle of the fish rushing for food is not to be missed.

The Pavillion Room we stayed, is well appointed, with one of the best bath/toilet design, rain showers, basin, bathtub in a nice tiled bathroom. The pillows are huge with comfy King sized bed.

Never leave food or drinks around as the army of ants will come and conquer. Guess the ants are expected as we are back in nature. Nothing ado, just clear away and the ants will be on their way.......

The breakfast spread is wide with local, international and cold sections.

The pastries could be made to taste better and the made-on-the-spot roti prata was not well spread (flipped) hence undercooked, not fluffy. These could be the student-chefs not being guided and to ensure the quality churned out.

The resort is just past the Ayer Keroh Toll. Melaka City is a good 25mins drive away where the historical sights and attractions are located and not forgetting the shopping areas too.

On the way back to the resort, Do Not miss the right turn leading to the resort as there is NO u-turn. The only way back is to drive on the NS Highway again, heading towards Johor and the "u-turn" back is at Jasin, 15 mins drive away. It's incredible but true as it happened to us.

Overall, a laid back, back to nature feel stay which we felt was different from our previous stays (always in the city area) in Melaka.
